Westmoreland lookahead for Week of Feb. 11, 2019

MONDAY

Hockey: A pair of all-Westmoreland County matchups will have an impact on the PIHL Class AA Southeast playoff picture. Latrobe takes on Penn-Trafford at 7 p.m. at Center Ice Arena, and Hempfield battles Franklin Regional at 7:15 p.m. at Nevin Arena. Latrobe will have a home game when the PIHL playoffs begin.

Another local game has Indiana taking on Norwin in a Class A East game at 9 p.m. at Center Ice.

Girls basketball : A number of local teams will use nonsection games as tuneups for the WPIAL playoffs, which are set to begin later in the week. Those matchups include Franklin Regional at Trinity, Greensburg Salem at Laurel Highlands, State College at Norwin and Southmoreland at South Park.

Boys basketball : Nonsection games include Penn-Trafford at Kiski Area and Latrobe at Hollidaysburg.

TUESDAY

Basketball: Area teams will learn their seedings and opening opponents as the WPIAL releases playoff pairings at 7 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel in Green Tree.

Rifle: The WPIAL team championships take place at Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club, starting at 1 p.m.

WEDNESDAY

Bowling: The WPIBL team championships will be held at Nesbit’s Lanes in Plum.

THURSDAY

Hockey : A pair of area Class AA games to watch include Westmont Hilltop vs. Greensburg Salem at 8:35 p.m. at Nevin Arena and Norwin vs. Wheeling Park at 6:15 p.m. at Rostraver Ice Garden.

Rifle : Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club will host the WPIAL individual championships. The competition begins at noon.

FRIDAY

Wrestling : The WPIAL individual postseason begins with the Class AA sectional tournaments at Canon-McMillan.

Basketball: The WPIAL playoffs are expected to start with early-round games in boys and girls tournaments.

Gymnastics : The WPIAL team championships will be contested at 7 p.m. at Moon.

SATURDAY

Gymnastics : The WPIAL individual championships begin at 10 a.m. at Moon.

Basketball: Opening-round games in the WPIAL playoffs are expected to be played.
