Players to watch: Bryce Kurpiel (Jr., 1B), Greensburg Central Catholic; Thomas Grecco (Sr., P), Dubois Central Catholic

Extra bases: Greensburg Central Catholic is back in the state playoffs for a fourth consecutive year after downing rival Jeannette, 8-7, in the WPIAL consolation game. The Centurions made a run to the state semifinals last year before losing to Clarion. Kurpiel has a .600 batting average and seven doubles. He successfully stole home in the consolation game. Antonio Cavallo had a two-run triple in the win over Jeannette. The Centurions have one state title, which came in 2002. … Dubois Central Catholic won the District 9 title by knocking off top-seeded and defending champion Oswayo Valley, 7-4, on Wednesday. It was its second district title in three years. Grecco is 7-1 this season and has a 0.53 ERA with 88 strikeouts in 52 23 innings. The Cardinals won the 2001 PIAA Class A title. They did not make the state tournament last year.
