WPIAL baseball playoffs roundup for May 23: Canon-McMillan drops No. 1 Central Catholic

Canon-McMillan's baseball team came out of the gates ready to play Wednesday afternoon and maintained its momentum en route to an 8-5 upset victory over No. 1 Central Catholic (15-5) in a WPIAL Class 6A semifinal game at Boyce-Mayview Park in Upper St. Clair.
The No. 4 Big Macs (16-5) scored three times in the first inning, added four runs in the third and tacked on a run in the sixth.
Connor Flaherty doubled in two runs, and Ian Hess earned the win for Canon-McMillan, which will play North Allegheny in the championship game next week at Wild Things Park.
Class 5A
Hampton 9, Moon 1 — Casey Marshalwitz threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts as No. 8 Hampton (15-4) defeated No. 1 Moon (13-4) in a WPIAL Class 5A quarterfinal at North Allegheny.
Marshalwitz also went 2 for 4 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Burke Camper was 4 for 4 with two RBIs.
Hampton will play No. 5 Mars in the semifinals Thursday.
West Allegheny 9, Chartiers Valley 1 — Logan Scheider was 2 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs as No. 2 West Allegheny (13-1) won a WPIAL Class 5A quarterfinal at Washington & Jefferson's Ross Memorial Park.
The Indians will play No. 3 North Hills in the semifinals Thursday.
Class 2A
Serra Catholic 9, Shenango 5 — Mark Black was 2 for 3 with a home run, double and five RBIs as No. 1 Serra Catholic (21-1) won a WPIAL Class 2A semifinal at Washington & Jefferson's Ross Memorial Park.
Zach Bowen was 3 for 3 for the Eagles, who will play No. 2 Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic in the finals.
Serra Catholic scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings.
