Here’s a look at players to watch for Week 1 in WPIAL high school football:

Tyler Brennan

North Hills, sr., RB

Brennan scored five first-half touchdowns — four rushing and one on an interception return — as Class 5A North Hills routed Butler, 42-7. The Indians open Class 5A Northern Conference play this week at Fox Chapel. Playing mostly as a wide receiver last season, Brennan turned just eight carries into 334 yards while tallying 15 catches for 248 yards.

Turner Grau

Avonworth, sr., WR

Grau, who committed to play baseball at Youngstown State earlier this week, caught nine passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-21 win over Neshannock last week. He had 60 catches for 963 yards and 10 scores a year ago. The Lopes will travel to Valley on Friday.

Max Obenrader

Hampton, sr., QB

Obenrader, a first-year starter, completed 10 of 13 passes for 161 yards and a score as Hampton defeated Knoch, 28-8, in Week Zero. The Talbots will open Class 5A Northern Conference play this week by hosting Armstrong.

Zack Swartz

Washington, jr., QB

After completing 16 of 20 passes for 375 yards and three scores in a 59-25 win over Laurel Highlands last week, what can Swartz do for an encore at Charleroi? His TD tosses covered 62, 74 and 28 yards. He also ran for 94 yards.
