WPIAL softball playoffs roundup for May 22, 2019: Avonworth rallies past South Park

After falling behind three runs, top-seeded Avonworth rallied for a 5-3 victory over No. 4 South Park in the WPIAL Class 3A semifinals Wednesday at North Allegheny.

Natalie Marshall, Cat Barie and Leah Logan all had RBIs for the Lopes (19-2).

Charlyn Blackburn had two RBIs for South Park (14-5).

Keystone Oaks 7, Avonworth 4 — Grace Taylor had two hits and two RBIs, and Sophia Piatt had two hits and one RBI to help No. 6 Keystone Oaks (13-4) win a WPIAL Class 3A semifinal game at Hampton.

The Golden Eagles will play Avonworth in the championship game May 29 or 30 at Peterswood Park.

Class 2A

Frazier 10, Chartiers-Houston 3 — Emi Curcio doubled and homered, and winning pitcher Logan Hartman doubled in two runs as No. 5 Frazier (17-3) won a WPIAL Class 2A semifinal at Trinity.

Karlyn Bayer hit a two-run home run for No. 1 Chartiers-Houston (17-4).

Laurel 12, Freedom 2 (5 inn.) — Brooke Atkins was 4 for 4, hitting for the cycle with four RBIs, and Kayla Ruperto was 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs as No. 3 Laurel (19-2) rolled to a WPIAL Class 2A semifinal win at North Allegheny.

Ruperto threw a four-hitter to earn the win.

Laurel will face Frazier in the WPIAL championship game May 29 or 30 at Peterswood Park.

Class A

West Greene 15, Jefferson-Morgan 0 (4 inn.) — Kaitlyn Rizor was 4 for 4 with two doubles, a triple, a home run and four RBIs, and Jade Renner threw a one-hitter with four strikeouts as No. 1 West Greene (18-4) cruised to a WPIAL Class A semifinal win at Trinity.

Renner also was 3 for 3 with two doubles and four RBIs, and Madison Lampe tripled, homered and had three RBIs for the Pioneers.

They will play No. 3 Union (12-5) in the championship game May 29 or 30 at Peterswood Park.
