WPIAL wrestlers selected to compete at Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic

Four WPIAL wrestlers, including state champions Gavin Teasdale of Jefferson-Morgan, Logan Macri of Canon-McMillan and Isaac Reid of Kiski Area, headline the Pennsylvania squad that will compete in the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic on March 25 at Pitt's Fitzgerald Field House.

Team Pennsylvania will take on a team of all-stars from around the country.

The fourth WPIAL wrestler on the squad is Belle Vernon senior Zach Hartman, who finished second in the state.

Teasdale, a four-time PIAA champion, will face Patrick Glory of Delbarton, N.J. The Princeton recruit if 159-7. Teasdale, a Penn State recruit, finished his high school career 162-2.

The United States team features 42 state champions compared to 23 for the Pennsylvania squad.

There are two undefeated wrestlers on the United States squad — Penn State recruit Roman Bravo-Young (182-0) of Sunnyside, Ariz. at 138 pounds, and Minnesota recruit Gable Steveson (171-0) of Apple Valley, Minn. at 285 pounds.

There are four wrestlers with more than 200 victories, led by Iowa State recruit David Carr (243-7) of Massillon Perry, Ohio at 152 pounds.

The WPIAL team will face the Iowa All-Stars at 4 p.m., followed at 6 p.m. by the feature match.

The Iowa team features 21 state champions. The WPIAL squad had 13 district champions.

Competing for the WPIAL are Moon's Frankie Bonura at 113 pounds, Seneca Valley's Louis Newell at 120, Waynesburg's Caleb Morris at 126, Kiski Area's Noah Levett at 132, Southmoreland's Tyler Griffiths at 138, Hempfield's Luke Kemerer at 145, Burrell's Corey Christie at 152, Burrell's Shaun Gates at 160, Greensburg Salem's Jesse Quatse at 170, Albert Gallatin's Tim Wallace at 182, Connellsville's Nate Ansell at 195, Laurel Highlands' Ian Edenfield at 220 and West Mifflin heavyweight Gerald Brown.

The coaches are Chris Heater of Kiski Area and Josh Shields of Burrell.
