The Fox Chapel boys lacrosse team is coming off of a 5-10 season in which it lost to Bethel Park in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs.

But coach Kevin Devinney is buoyed by the fact that he only lost two seniors from that team.

“We're returning many starters and lettermen from last season due to the small graduating class. We have a great senior class this year that we will look to for leadership and contributions.”

Nolan Crocker, Grant Geraci, Patrick Poznik, Mark Hagan, George Thompson, Jarad Reiss, Paul Cullen and Adam Dolhi are the returning seniors. Additionally, juniors Bradley Root and Graham Childs, all-section players a year ago, return.

“We will rely on those two guys heavily at their respective positions and for leadership. Reed Seybolt is another junior standout. He led the team in points last year, and we're looking for him to further those numbers this year. Our junior class is deep, and we'll be looking for others to contribute, as well.”

Sophomores Joe D'Cunha, Jackson Boychuck, Jacob Correnti and Devon Root saw varsity time last year and will be counted on to have a greater influence on the team this season.

“We will be well-balanced at each position this year and are essentially one year more experienced as a team,” Devinney said. “We need to be more fluid on offense and play better help defense in order to be successful. We also have a tough stretch of games against nonsection teams that we can't afford to come up empty handed in.”

The Foxes are in a section with mostly familiar teams.

“North Allegheny is the newcomer and immediately strengthens our section and makes it highly competitive. Shady Side Academy and Franklin Regional should remain very strong, and those games are circled on our calendar,” Devinney said. “Plum continues to improve, and we'll have to prepare well for them. Overall, our section is strong, and it might take a flawless section record to come out on top.

“Overall, we're looking to have a winning season this year, compete for section, win a playoff game and then take it from there. We lost a few one- and two-goal games last year and have those same teams on our schedule this year, so we're hoping for a better outcome in those games. We certainly have the individual talent needed to accomplish our goals, so it will be a matter of how effectively we can play together as a team.”
