Career win No. 100 arrived as expected for Bethel Park’s talented senior wrestler Ethan Higgins.
“It’s an incredible feeling. Honestly, I’ve worked so hard to get to this point, and when it finally happened, I felt a huge sense of accomplishment,” Higgins said. “It’s a testament to all the hours of training, the support from my coaches and teammates and the sacrifices that have gone into my wrestling career.
“I want to thank my teammates, coaches and family for all their support.”
The Bethel Park grappler hit the century mark in in his first-round match at the prestigious Powerade holiday wrestling tournament Dec. 27 at Canon-McMillan.
“Ethan wrestled well at Powerade. Reaching 100 wins is a great milestone, and we are beyond proud of Ethan for doing this. He joined some talented wrestlers in the 100-win club,” Bethel Park coach Tyler Nauman said. “He looks to continue to improve and win in February and March when it counts.”
Higgins handily defeated Altoona sophomore Gavin Ciampoli, 7-1, in the 145-pound weight class at Powerade to improve to 100-44 for his career.
Higgins competed at 152 pounds for most of December and ended the tournament 19-5 overall after generating 34-10, 25-13 and 24-18 records the three previous seasons with 50 career pins.
“Ethan came down to 145 from 152 and I think this weight class fits him a bit better,” Nauman said.
“Being the first time down a weight and first two-day weigh-in losing a little bit of weight, sometimes you don’t know how you’ll feel or wrestle. But Ethan handled it well and has performed at a high level.”
