Youth has been served this spring when it comes to Baldwin softball. The Highlanders have started as many as seven freshman this year and after a slow start, are in the playoff chase in the very competitive Class AAAA Section 4. A year ago, Baldwin made the playoffs for a third straight year, only to lose to North Allegheny in Round One.
Baldwin athletic director and former softball coach Vince Sortino provides some information on the 2013 Baldwin Highlanders.

Seniors
Abbey Suhoski – She batted .429 last year with 5HRS, 21 RBI’s and a SLG % of .786. She opened the season with a Grand Slam vs. Peters Township, which only reiterates Abbey should be considered the top offensive threat within the WPIAL. Abbey will be attending Seton Hill on an athletic scholarship. She has the intent to graduate with a Bachelor’s of Science in Actuarial Mathematics.
· Captain / SS
Marie Lux – This is Marie’s first year with our softball program.
· JV / OF
Juniors:
Melissa Paterni – She batted .358 last year with 14 RBI’s and a SLG % of .453. Melissa will be a co-caption with Abbey Suhoski this year. I will look to Melissa for offensive productivity and key leadership roles throughout the season.
· Captain / 1B
Breanna Meyer – She batted .227 last year as a Sophomore. I will look to Breanna for key defensive plays at third base and to continue to turn over the lineup with her hitting.
