Youth has been served this spring when it comes to Baldwin softball. The Highlanders have started as many as seven freshman this year and after a slow start, are in the playoff chase in the very competitive Class AAAA Section 4. A year ago, Baldwin made the playoffs for a third straight year, only to lose to North Allegheny in Round One.

Baldwin athletic director and former softball coach Vince Sortino provides some information on the 2013 Baldwin Highlanders.

Seniors

Abbey Suhoski – She batted .429 last year with 5HRS, 21 RBI’s and a SLG % of .786. She opened the season with a Grand Slam vs. Peters Township, which only reiterates Abbey should be considered the top offensive threat within the WPIAL. Abbey will be attending Seton Hill on an athletic scholarship. She has the intent to graduate with a Bachelor’s of Science in Actuarial Mathematics.
