2016 MSA SPORTS DIAMOND DOLLS

Pitchers can dominate the sport of softball. But this year’s Diamond Dolls all-star team is led by pitchers who also were big factors as hitters.

The Diamond Dolls is made up of the top 10 players in the WPIAL, regardless of position, and is picked by the MSA Sports staff.

Pitchers like Hempfield’s Morgan Ryan, Shaler’s Bri Dobson and West Greene’s Madison also had huge impacts as hitters and led their teams to highly successful seasons. All four WPIAL champions have a player on the Diamond Dolls team.

Youth also is served on this team as it includes four sophomores.

Here is a look at the Diamond Dolls team.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

MORGAN RYAN, HEMPFIELD
Pitcher – Senior

It was the Ryan Express this year for the Spartans.

Ryan led Hempfield to WPIAL and PIAA Class AAAA championships. Ryan was at her best in the PIAA playoffs, not allowing a run in four games. She pitched a 1-0, eight-inning shutout in the PIAA title game. For the season, Ryan was 23-2 with a 1.11 ERA. She pitched 151 innings and struck out 188, and gave up only 71 hits.

As a hitter, Ryan carried a .333 batting average with four doubles, six home runs and 30 RBIs.

Ryan has a future in major-college softball. She already has made a verbal commitment to Notre Dame.

BRI DOBSON, SHALER
Pitcher – Senior

Dobson was a four-year starter and was a dominant pitcher and hitter this season. On offense, she hit .543 with an impressive 12 home runs. She had 50 RBIs for one of the top teams in WPIAL Class AAAA. As a pitcher, she was 19-2 with a 1.11 ERA. She shut out eight opponents for a team that went 19-2.

MADI BEINING, NORTH ALLEGHENY
Pitcher – Senior

A four-year starter, Madi was maddening for North Allegheny opponents, as she was a force as a pitcher and hitter. She was 19-4 with a 0.97 ERA. She pitched 142 innings and had 141 strikeouts. At the plate, she hit .391 with five doubles and 24 RBIs. She will play next season at Gannon.

BAILEY PARSHALL, BELLE VERNON
Pitcher – Sophomore

Parshall is young, but she is like a seasoned veteran for the Leopards. She was the star player for Belle Vernon last year as a freshman. This year, Parshall was a force as a pitcher and hitter. She was 15-5 as a pitcher and opponents hit only .150 against her. She had 213 strikeouts in 134 innings. Her ERA was 0.83. On offense, she batted .431 with seven doubles, two home runs and 14 RBIs.

JAIMIE SCHLEICHER, BALDWIN
1B – Senior

The Highlanders went to great heights this year, and Schleicher led the way. Baldwin made the WPIAL Class AAAA title game. Schleicher, a four-year starter, hit .623 with seven doubles, four home runs and 30 RBIs. She also scored 26 runs and did not strike out once. She will play at Pitt-Greensburg.

KAITLYN PAVLICK, SOUTH PARK
3B – Sophomore

Pavlick paved the way for the Eagles to make the WPIAL Class AA title game. She was a “hard out” as she batted .625. She showed power with six home runs. She also had 30 RBIs and 29 runs scored. But she also showed athletic ability with 15 stolen bases.

MADISON RENNER, WEST GREENE
Pitcher – Sophomore

Renner was a super sophomore, helping West Greene to the program’s first WPIAL championship. The Pioneers also made it to the PIAA Class A title game. Renner batted .565 this year and had 15 doubles, nine home runs and an incredible 66 RBIs. As a pitcher, she was 19-2 with a 1.72 ERA. She pitched 134 1/3 innings and struck out 118.

MACY MULARSKI, YOUGH
Pitcher – Senior

Mularski was a four-year starter and she capped her career in grand fashion by leading Yough to a state championship in Class AAA. Mularski finished with a 20-3 record and 208 strikeouts. Her ERA was 0.84. She had nine shutouts and came up big with shutouts in the PIAA semifinals and championship.

MEADOW UNCAPHER, MOUNT PLEASANT
Pitcher – Sophomore

Mount Pleasant won its first WPIAL title this year and the stud sophomore Uncapher was one of the main reasons. She was the winning pitcher in the Class AAA title game and also hit a three-run homer. Uncapher was an excellent hitter, but also had a 12-5 pitcher record with 101 strikeouts.

SKYLA GRECO, ELLWOOD CITY
Pitcher – Senior

Everything was just about perfect for Greco and Ellwood City this season. She finished with a 21-1 record and led Ellwood City to the WPIAL Class AA championship. She was the Wolverines’ starter since her freshman year and averaged more than a strikeout per inning this season.
