The 2016 WPIAL football playoff field is now set…well, almost. Five classifications are ready to go for the brackets on Monday night, with only one team still to be determined in Class 1-A. While all of these playoff teams will share the spotlight leading up to Friday. November 4th and kickoff of the opening round, there will be a lot of discussion prior to Monday of one team that did not make the field of 64. Beaver came into the final Friday of the regular season ranked #1 in Class 3-A and after all the kings horses and all the kings men figured out the tiebreakers in the Beaver Valley Conference, they could not put the Bobcats and the district playoff together again. Here is the latest WPIAL Playoff Picture heading into Saturday, October 29th.

A quick tutorial:
Top FOUR teams in each of the two conferences make playoffs in 6-A, 5-A and 4-A.
Top TWO teams in each of three conferences in Class 3-A plus TWO third place wild card teams. One second place team will join the conference champs in hosting a Quarterfinals playoff game.
Top FIVE teams in each of the three conference in Class 2-A and Class 1-A plus ONE sixth place wild card team. TWO third place teams will join the top two in each conference in hosting a First Round playoff game.

If Western Beaver loses, then Union would finish in sixth place, but they have not shot of a wild card based on their record (2-6). With cross-over victories for both (Riverview over Avella and West Greene over Leechburg), Riverview and West Greene are 3-5 and Riverview would clinch based on Gardner Points above.
Two third place team host First Round playoff games: Our Lady of the Sacred Heart is 6-2, Bishop Canevin with cross-over win over Carmichaels is 6-2 and Caslifornia with cross-over loss to Imani Christian is 5-3, so Bishop Canevin and OLSH will host playoff games.
