Players like Kyshawn Robinson don’t come along often. From leadership and athletic ability to grit and football IQ, he checks all of the boxes.

The four-star defensive back who also plays running back only has improved as his high school career has progressed.

His workouts over the summer have made him a more refined athlete by increasing his strength and versatility. His playmaking ability has put the Western Pa. high school football community on notice.

“Summer training has been great,” Robinson said. “The weight room is paying off, and everyone will be able to tell once the season starts.”

Getting slightly better each day has been Robinson’s mantra throughout the offseason. He emphasized that he has been focusing on getting quicker, both mentally and physically. However, he also said that to be a star in high school and perform at the next level, he must further build up his physical abilities. Considering his frame is on the smaller side (5-foot-10, 165 pounds), that is particularly important.

“(I have worked on) my speed and my hips. I have been doing lots of stretching and speed training,” Robinson said. “I also have been working on more explosive movements.”

While Robinson has kept a tight conditioning schedule this summer, he also has remained busy in the recruiting process. He has 22 Division I offers, 17 of which are from Power 4 schools.

“My recruitment has been exciting. New schools have been reaching out day by day,” Robinson said.

There’s a reason Robinson is a hot commodity. He was ranked as the seventh-best overall prospect in Pennsylvania and the 17th highest-rated cornerback in the country in the 2026 class by Rivals.

Meanwhile, when asked about his goals for the upcoming season, the 2023 All-City League cornerback gave a blunt response.

“State championship,” Robinson said.

His matter-of-fact answer underscores that his preparation over the offseason has not only been for himself. It has also been for his team. In 2024, the Bulldogs are seeking redemption after a heartbreaking 21-20 defeat to Southern Columbia in last year’s PIAA Class 2A championship game.

Westinghouse coach Donta Green has lauded the mental side of Robinson’s game, with his leadership especially standing out.

“First and foremost, his leadership is just as good as his ability. He shows up every day and leads by example,” Green said. “His leadership stands out more than anything.”

Green sees how Robinson’s guidance could help propel Westinghouse to a state championship.

“He’s the quarterback of the defense,” Green said. “I expect him to lead our defense to a successful year and take over the team.”
