It’s not always easy being the most dominant pitcher in the area, playing for a team with WPIAL title expectations.

Seneca Valley’s Lexie Hames would know that as well as anyone.

“It definitely puts a lot of pressure on you,” said the junior, who often made it look easy. “Our team is really close. We know everybody wants to beat us. We’re one of the top teams in the WPIAL. That also helps us bond as a team because we all understand each other’s pressures.”

Despite dealing with some muscle knots in her shoulder this spring, the right-hander continued to dominate in the circle and also contributed to another championship run with her bat. As a result, Hames is the 2024 TribLive HSSN Softball Player of the Year, winning the award for the second year in a row.

Hames finished the season with a record of 16-1 with 265 strikeouts in 114 2/3 innings pitched. At the plate, she batted .380 with nine home runs and 27 RBIs.

In the WPIAL Class 6A championship game, Hames pitched all eight innings, allowing two earned runs, four hits, four walks and 19 strikeouts while she herself was walked four times in the victory over Norwin, 4-3 in eight innings.

Hames discussed her season with TribLive HSSN’s Don Rebel on the Rebel Yell podcast.
