Wrestler of the year
Cooper Roscosky
Kiski Area, jr., 215 pounds
2024-25 record: 41-8. Career record: 113-23
If it were not for Belle Vernon junior Elijah Brown, Kiski Area junior Cooper Roscosky probably would have been a PIAA 3A champion.
But Roscosky just could not solve Brown in five meetings this season and had to settle for being runner-up at the WPIAL, PIAA West Regional and PIAA events. He hopes to change that next season.
His outstanding campaign this time around made him the TribLive Alle-Kiski Valley Wrestler of the Year.
“It was a good season,” Roscosky said. “I was hoping for more. The matches against Elijah were close. I must learn to get over the hump.
“What I did learn was that I am as good as anyone in the state. I just need to continue to work hard and believe in myself.”
Roscosky and Brown were among the top four 215-pound wrestlers in the state, all from the WPIAL.
Central Catholic sophomore Roman Thompson defeated Ringgold senior Jake Conroy for third place.
Roscosky said he hopes the three returning wrestlers spread out across weight classes.
“All four of us were talented enough to be state champions,” Roscosky said. “We’ll see if we decide to move.”
Roscosky said he underestimated himself to begin the season, but his confidence grew.
Now he’s looking forward to seeing what next season brings.
He hopes for a gold medal.
Roscosky has not made a commitment to any college yet, but he wants to wrestle at a Division I program.
“I want to go to a school that has a good wrestling program that helps me progress,” Roscosky said. “I also want a school that has good academics.”
