Notable: Sewickley Academy is playing in the PIAA championship game for the sixth time. The Panthers won in 1997, 2010 and ‘17 and lost in 2004 and last winter. … The Panthers fell to District 3’s Lineville Hill, 55-54, in last season’s state final. Battles, Spencer, Grimsley and Kane were all starters in that game. … In the semifinals, Kane scored 21 points, and Adam Ikamba added 16 for the Panthers. Kane and Ikamba are both 6-foot-8 forwards. … Drew Steals, a sophomore guard, had 20 points against McConnellsburg. … Grimsley is a 1,000-point scorer in his career. … The Panthers have held opponents to 30.2 ppg while averaging 68.5. … The Panthers started the season 21-0 before falling to Roselle Catholic, N.J., 54-53 in overtime, right before the playoffs. … This is Iuzzolino’s second year as coach. A former NBA player with the Dallas Mavericks, he spent the spent the previous eight seasons on the Robert Morris men’s basketball staff, including three years as associate head coach.
