3 of PIHL’s 5 All-Star Games decided by 1 goal

The PIHL held its 2025 all-star games Sunday at Robert Morris’ Island Sports Center. Dozens of players competed in five games throughout the day:

Class 3A

Blue 8, Gold 4 — Robert Chiappettas (South Fayette), Cam Lorenzi (Thomas Jefferson) and Carson Verszyla (Pine-Richland) scored twice each, and Marc Joyson (North Allegheny) and William Kasunich (NA) added goals as Blue won in Class 3A. Cam Junker (NA), Owen Laurent (Upper St. Clair) and Ben Balla (Central Catholic) combined for 30 saves in the win.

For Gold, Derek Schliebner (TJ), Griffin Krupp (Mt. Lebanon), Josh Lanyard (Pine-Richland) and Nick Matus (Franklin Regional) scored.

Class 2A

Blue 6, Gold 5 — In Class 2A, Latrobe’s Dylan Morris scored at the 16:26 mark of the third period to seal a win for Blue. Ethan Cunningham (Cathedral Prep) had two goals, and Mathius Sprickman (CP), Liam Wiseman (Fox Chapel) and Tucker Kinnear (CP) also scored. Miles Carey (Fox Chapel) made 14 saves in the win.

Sammy Treager (Bishop McCort), Carson O’Donoghue (Canon-McMillan), Dom Cerilli (Norwin) and Gabe Herrie (Baldwin) scored for Gold.

Class A

Gold 3, Blue 2 — Meadville’s Ryan Yunik scored a goal at 15:44 of the third period to lift Gold to a Class A victory. Graham Shellhaas (Meadville) and Logan Pielech (Wheeling Catholic) also scored for Gold. Harrison Parra (McDowell) had two assists. Ethan Diianni (Montour) and Ian Lorang (Quaker Valley) made eight saves each and didn’t allow a goal.

Jake Fink (Greensburg Salem) scored twice, and Dylan Leiper (Blackhawk) added two assists in the loss.

Blue 3, Gold 2 — In another matchup of Class A all-stars, Avonworth’s Cooper Powell scored at the start of the third period and helped give Blue a one-goal victory. Ben Bowser (Mars) and Conner Ralston (Avonworth) also scored, and Austin Dzadovsky (Avonworth) had two assists in the win. Luke Rowe (Indiana) and Danny Mack (Avonworth) combined for 23 saves.

John Wineland (West Allegheny) and Branden Switalski (West Allegheny) scored for Gold.

Division 2

Blue 11, Gold 5 — Deer Lakes’ Ryan Grunden had four goals and an assist to lift Blue to victory. Alex Rodgers (Wilmington), Ivan Manculich (Carrick), Luke Mink (Burrell), Mason Cervone (Deer Lakes), Aiden Malay (Bishop Canevin), Forrest Baird (Burrell) and Mike Crea (Central Valley) also scored for Blue. Brian Kalanish (Bishop Canevin), Manculich and Malay had two assists each.

Nikita Oleksiienko (Deer Lakes) made 16 saves and allowed one goal in the win.

Gold’s scoring was provided by Geno Valenti (Morgantown), Jacob Hollander (Morgantown), CJ Evans (Gateway), Ayden Shepherd (Morgantown) and Seamus Coyle (Trinity). Hollander and Cam Thompson (Elizabeth Forward) had two assists each.

Blue scored five times in the third period to seal the win.
