3 WPIAL champs, 1 runner-up make PIAA tennis semifinals

Three WPIAL champions and a runner-up advanced to the semifinals at the PIAA tennis championships Friday in Hershey.

The runner-up was Advaita Sircar of North Allegheny, who rolled through a pair of matches in the Class 3A boys singles bracket. He beat David Mikotowicz of McDowell, 6-1, 6-2, and Michael Gao of Conestoga, 6-1, 6-2.

The Class 3A WPIAL champ, Adam Memije of Gateway, won in the first round but lost in the quarterfinals.

The Gateway doubles team of Zidaan Hassan and Logan Memije, the WPIAL Class 3A doubles champs, won twice in straight sets to make Saturday’s semifinals. They topped Viseth Meng and Joe Shkreli of Cedar Crest, 6-4, 6-4, and Francis DeLucia and Vincent Strenge of Pennsbury, 6-3, 6-2.

WPIAL runners-up Luca Ritivoi and Mark Summers of Mt. Lebanon won in the first round but fell in the quarterfinals.

In Class 2A, singles champ Max Henson of Belle Vernon cruised past his first two opponents, beating Rowan Bayley of Camp Hill Trinity, 6-0, 6-0, and Daniel Gallagher of Bishop Shanahan, 6-2, 6-2.

In Class 2A doubles, WPIAL champs Jonah Jasek and Steven Duing of South Park made the semifinals after a pair of hard-fought victories. They beat Cole Stoltzfus and Hayden Winey of Pequea Valley, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, in the first round and Ben Chervoneva and Gabriel Shapiro of Lower Moreland, 7-6 (3), 7-5, in the quarterfinals.

WPIAL runners-up Landon Harclerode and Tyler Quinn of Valley won their first-round match, getting past Michael Ferraro and Ty Hulick of Cathedral Prep, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2, before falling in the quarterfinals.
