Four WPIAL basketball players were among 24 student-athletes chosen for the first-ever PIAA Hoopsfest All-Championship Teams.
South Allegheny’s Drew Cook, Upper St. Clair’s Rylee Kalocay, South Fayette’s Juliette Leroux and Neighborhood Academy’s Courtney Wallace were selected by the PIAA for the honor. The PIAA announced separate 12-player teams for boys and girls based on performances in the state finals Thursday-Saturday at Giant Center in Hershey.
This was the first year that the PIAA selected all-championship teams.
Eleven players on each team were identified through a vote of select media members and “representatives from the Pennsylvania basketball community,” according to the PIAA. TribLive was included in the media vote.
One player on each team earned a spot through fan voting. Kalocay was voted in as a fan favorite.
• Epps led South Allegheny with 22 points and five rebounds in a 60-51 loss to West Catholic in the Class 3A boys final.
• Kalocay scored a team-high 10 points for Upper St. Clair in a loss to Perkiomen Valley, 58-27, in the Class 6A girls final.
• Leroux led South Fayette with 15 points and seven rebounds as the Lions won 45-37 over Archbishop Wood in the Class 5A girls final.
• Wallace posted a double-double in the Class A boys final with 16 points and 13 rebounds as Neighborhood Academy defeated Sankofa Freedom Academy, 60-51.
