5 teams drop out of TribLIVE HSSN PIAA football rankings

Whether you’re a fan of your local team, or you like to know what’s going on in high school football around Pennsylvania, the TribLive High School Sports Network has you covered this fall. We rank the top WPIAL teams in each class every Sunday and follow up with our PIAA rankings every Monday.
While all the top seeds held serve with Week 2 victories, there were changes, as seven teams lost and five of them lost their spots in the top five.
There was a pair of head-to-head games involving ranked teams. Class 4A No. 4 Bishop McDevitt rolled past 3A No. 2 Middletown, 40-14, in District 3, and Class A No. 2 Jeannette beat No. 4 Imani Christian in a rematch of the 2017 WPIAL Class A finals.
Here is the PIAA top five in each of the six classifications heading into Week 3. Their ranking from last week is the number in parentheses after their record.
Class 6A
1. St. Joseph’s Prep (0-0, 1): The Hawks beat St. Peters Prep (N.J.), 35-27. On Friday, they host Our Lady of Good Counsel (Md).
2. Coatesville (3-0) (2): The Red Raiders beat Cumberland Valley, 35-19. On Friday, they visit Bishop Shanahan.
3. Pine-Richland (2-1) (3): The defending PIAA champion Rams beat Moon, 42-14. On Friday, they host Butler in a game you can hear on Trib HSSN.
4. State College (3-0) (4): The Little Lions beat Hollidaysburg, 49-22. On Friday, they host Carlisle.
5. North Allegheny (3-0) (NR): The Tigers beat Central Catholic, 27-3. On Friday, they visit Canon-McMillan in a game you can hear on Trib HSSN.
Out: Parkland
Class 5A
1. Manheim Central (3-0) (1): The Barons beat Warwick, 27-20. On Friday, they host West Lawn Wilson.
2. Gateway (3-0) (2): The Gators beat Plum, 55-0. On Friday, they host Latrobe in a game you can hear on Trib HSSN.
3. Penn Hills (3-0) (5): The Indians beat Fox Chapel, 46-0. On Friday, they visit Mars in a game you can hear on Trib HSSN.
4. Springfield-Delco (3-0) (4): The Cougars beat Ridley, 17-16. On Friday, they visit Harriton.
5. McKeesport (3-0) (NR): The Tigers beat Albert Gallatin, 49-0. On Friday, they host Penn-Trafford in a game you can hear on Trib HSSN.
Out: Archbishop Wood
Class 4A
1. Thomas Jefferson (2-0) (1): The Jaguars beat Belle Vernon, 36-14. On Friday, they host Indiana in a game you can watch on Trib HSSN.
2. Bishop McDevitt (3-0) (4): The Crusaders beat Middletown, 40-14. On Friday, they visit Red Land.
3. Pottsgrove (3-0) (NR): The Falcons beat Boyertown, 34-8. On Friday, they visit Glen Mills.
4. Cathedral Prep (1-2) (2): The defending PIAA champion Ramblers lost to St. Edward (Ohio), 35-3. On Friday, they visit St. Benedictine (Ohio).
5. Berks Catholic (2-1) (5): The Saints beat McDonogh (Md.), 14-13. On Friday, they visit Boyertown.
Out: Imhotep Charter
Class 3A
1. Aliquippa (3-0) (1): The Quips beat Quaker Valley, 59-6. On Friday, they host Montour.
2. Scranton Prep (3-0) (3): The Cavaliers beat Abington Heights, 41-0. On Friday, they visit Valley View.
3. Sharon (2-1) (4): The Tigers beat Fairview, 63-12. On Friday, they visit Slippery Rock.
4. Conwell-Egan Catholic (3-0) (5): The Eagles beat William Penn Charter, 41-14. On Saturday, they visit Lansdale Catholic.
5. Middletown (2-1) (2): The Blue Raiders lost to Bishop McDevitt, 40-14. On Friday, they host Camp Hill.

Class 2A
1. Southern Columbia (3-0) (1): The defending PIAA champion Tigers beat Selinsgrove, 48-0. On Friday, they host Shamokin.
2. Ligonier Valley (3-0) (2): The Rams beat United, 47-7. On Friday they host Saltsburg.
3. Wilmington (2-1) (4): The Greyhounds beat Northwestern, 66-19. On Friday, they host Lakeview.
4. Steel Valley (2-0) (5): The Ironmen beat Avonworth, 31-24. On Friday, they host Shady Side Academy in a game you can hear on Trib HSSN.
5. Delone Catholic (3-0) (NR): The Squires beat Steelton-Highspire 54-19. On Friday, they host York County Tech.
Out: Riverside
Class A
1. Farrell (3-0) (1): The Steelers beat Union City, 70-6. On Friday, they host West Middlesex.
2. Jeannette (3-0) (2): The defending PIAA champion Jayhawks beat Imani Christian, 28-12. On Friday, they visit Avella.
3. Williams Valley (3-0) (3): The Vikings beat Tri-Valley, 47-21. On Friday, they visit Susquenita.
4. South Williamsport (2-0) (5): The Mountaineers beat Hughesville, 54-22. On Friday, they visit Muncy.
5. Clairton (2-0) (NR): The Bears beat Greensburg Central Catholic, 40-0. On Saturday, they visit Riverview.
