6 WPIAL girls basketball teams set for PIAA semifinal matchups

Heading into the PIAA girls basketball semifinals, there are two guarantees for the six remaining teams from the WPIAL.

There will be two District 7 teams playing for state gold in Class 5A and 3A, and there will be no district teams in the 2A and Class A title games.

As far as the PIAA Class 6A and 4A championship contests, stay tuned.

Because of a previous commitment in the Giant Center schedule, this year’s Road to Hershey is spread out over three weeks instead of two.

So the teams still alive have a week before the fourth round and another week before the final round.

The Magnificent 7 from District 7 has been cut to the Sweet 6 girls teams headed to the final four as Upper St. Clair, Peters Township, South Fayette, Shady Side Academy and OLSH prepare for the semifinals Friday and Saturday.
