New girls basketball coach Tim McConnell’s debut went well for Class 5A No. 1 Chartiers Valley on Friday night.

Aislin Malcolm hit six 3-pointers for 18 points, Mackenzie Wagner added 18 points and Gabby Legister tallied 16 to lead the Colts (1-0) to a 64-40 victory over Class 6A No. 4 Mt. Lebanon (0-1) at the North Allegheny tournament.

Blackhawk 70, Canon-McMillan 48 — Mackenzie Amalia had 25 points and Mady Aulbach added 19 as Class 4A No. 2 Blackhawk (1-0) won at the Trinity tournament.

East Allegheny 63, Allderdice 59 — Amaia Johnson had 31 points, including 23 in the second half, as East Allegheny (1-0) won at the Serra Catholic tournament.

Montour 53, Brashear 28 — Courtney Tomas had 23 points to lift Montour (1-0) to victory at its host tournament.

Neshannock 58, Shaler 35 — Bella Burrelli had 21 points to pace Class 3A No. 1 Neshannock (1-0) to a victory at the Ambridge tournament.

North Allegheny 60, Penn Hills 47 — Lizzy Groetsch had 12 points and Brooke Barcia added 11 as Class 6A No. 1 North Allegheny (1-0) defeated Class 5A No. 3 Penn Hills at its host tournament.

Shady Side Academy 49, Vincentian Academy 18 — Arianna Goitz tallied 17 points to guide Shady Side Academy (1-0) to a win at the St. Joseph tournament.

Highlands 48, St. Joseph 25 — Sarah Sawhook scored a game-high 21 points, lifting Highlands to a win over neighboring St. Joseph in the Spartans’ tip-off tournament.

Jocelyn Luzier added 14 points for the Golden Rams (1-0), who made new coach Courtney Udanis a winner in her debut. Highlands will play Shady Side Academy at 6:30 p.m. Saturday for the tournament championship.

Apollo-Ridge 53, Valley 12 — Rylee Eaton scored a game-high 16 points to help lead Apollo-Ridge (1-0) past Valley (0-1) in the Springdale tournament. Apollo-Ridge will play Ellwood City in the championship game at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Kiski Area 49, Imani Christian 9 — Hannah Potter and Dara Zelonka scored 14 points apiece as Kiski Area (1-0) routed Imani Christian (0-1) at the Leechburg tip-off tournament. The Cavaliers (1-0) led 20-1 after the first quarter and will play for the tournament championship at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Fox Chapel 53, Ringgold 22 — Domenica Delaney drained five 3-pointers on her way to scoring a game-high 20 points to help lead Fox Chapel (1-0) past Ringgold (0-1) in the Montour tournament. Jess Paper and Claire Fenton added 10 points apiece for the Foxes, who will play Brashear at 2 p.m. Saturday.

McKeesport 64, Plum 52 — Jhayla Bray scored 22 points as McKeesport used a 38-point second half to put away Plum in the McKeesport tournament. Emma Elash scored 12 points for McKeesport (1-0). Kennedie Montue led Plum with 18 points. MacKenzie Lake and Kelsi Zik scored 12 points each for Plum (0-1).

West Greene 73, Freeport 61 — Sidney Shemanski’s team-high 17 points wasn’t enough as Freeport fell to West Greene in the Southmoreland tournament. Madeline Clark added 16 points for Freeport (0-1). McKenna Lampe scored a game-high 22 points to lead West Greene (1-0).

Armstrong 50, Knoch 33 Knoch led by one at halftime, but was limited to 12 second-half points in a loss at the Armstrong tournament. Loryn Bowser led Armstrong (1-0) with 14 points. Skye Burkett had 11 points to lead the Knights (0-1).

Albert Gallatin 66, Yough 9 — Bryn Bezjak had 26 points to lead Albert Gallatin (1-0) past Yough (0-1) at the Southmoreland tournament.

Cumberland Valley 51, Penn-Trafford 28 — Bella Long had 13 points, but Penn-Trafford (0-1) fell at the McKeesport tournament.

Franklin Regional 71, Aliquippa 15 Franklin Regional (1-0) opened a 21-2 lead and rolled to a win at the Bethel Park tournament.

Greensburg Central Catholic 62, Uniontown 47 — Bella Skatell had 27 points, and Melina Maietta added 17 as Greensburg Central Catholic (1-0) won at the Fayette County Coaches tournament.

Latrobe 64, Bishop Canevin 57 — At the Indiana tournament, Carly Augustine had 19 points, and Anna Rafferty added 16 as Latrobe (1-0) defeated Class 2A No. 1 Bishop Canevin (0-1). Savanah Abbott had 21 points for the Crusaders.

Norwin 48, Altoona 38 — At the North Allegheny tournament, Olivia Gribble had 17 points, and Jessica Kolesar added 14 as Norwin (1-0) earned a victory.

Red Lion 49, Belle Vernon 34 — Lindsay Steeber had 13 points for Belle Vernon (0-1) in a loss at the McKeesport tournament.

Southmoreland 53, Burrell 32 — Maggie Moore had 16 points and 12 rebounds as Southmoreland (1-0) topped Burrell (0-1) at the Southmoreland tournament. Ally Fisher had 13 points and Kaylen Sharrow added 12 for the Bucs.

Boys basketball

Bethel Park 85, Steel Valley 72 — Led by Alex Mullen’s 30 points, Bethel Park (1-0) rolled to a victory at its host tournament.

Chartiers Valley 79, Seneca Valley 67 — Jared Goldstrom had 23 points to guide Chartiers Valley (1-0) to a season-opening win at the North Hills tournament. Trey Berringer had 22 points for Seneca Valley.

Greensburg Salem 48, Hempfield 41 — At the Hempfield tournament, Golden Lions gave first-year coach Mark Zahorchak a win in his debut as Dante Parsons had a game-high 21 points, including nine in the third quarter.

Jeff Mankins made a layup with 35 seconds left and Parsons made two free throws with 9.3 seconds left for the Golden Lions.

Hempfield was limited to four points in the fourth quarter. Jules Nicholls led the Spartans with 12 points.

Hampton 64, North Hills 51 — Ben Ringheisen had 24 points, and Colby Mignogna added 19 as Hampton (1-0) won at the North Hills tournament.

Mt. Lebanon 86, Farrell 44 — Blaine Gartley had 23 points to guide Class 6A No. 4 Mt. Lebanon (1-0) to a season-opening win.

New Castle 73, Westinghouse 56 — Drew Cox had 19 points to help Class 4A No. 2 New Castle (1-0) defeat Westinghouse at the New Castle tournament.

North Catholic 70, Sewickley Academy 65 — Isaac DeGregorio scored 18 points as Class 3A No. 3 North Catholic (1-0) won at the Baldwin/Peters Township tournament. Nate Ridgeway poured in 33 points for Class 2A No. 1 Sewickley Academy (0-1).

OLSH 70, Blackhawk 60 — Daren DiMichele had 19 points and Dante Spadafora added 16 as Class 2A No. 2 OLSH (1-0) earned a win at the Armstrong tournament.

Penn Hills 69, Beaver Falls 50 — Marshall McArthur and Wes Kropp each had 17 points to guide Penn Hills (1-0) to a win at the Midland tournament.

Quaker Valley 67, Brashear 41 — Danny Conlan’s 20 points lifted Class 4A No. 1 Quaker Valley (1-0) to a win at the Moon tournament.

South Fayette 74, Frazier 64 — Conner Mislan had 30 points as South Fayette (1-0) won at the South Park tournament. Justin Novak had 33 points and 10 rebounds for Frazier (0-1).

South Park 59, West Mifflin 47 — Aidan Rongaus had 26 points to lead South Park (1-0) to a win at its host tournament.

Southmoreland 66, Mt. Pleasant 63 — Riley Comforti had 21 points as Southmoreland (1-0) earned a win at its host tournament. Nate Kubasky had 15 points for Mt. Pleasant (0-1).

Waynesburg 54, Burgettstown 52 — At the McGuffey tournament, Lucas Garber scored 29 points to lead Waynesburg (1-0) to victory.

Upper St. Clair 92, West Allegheny 52 — With four players in double figures, Upper St. Clair (1-0) cruised to a victory in its host tournament. Tanner Gensler (22 points), Luke Gensler (20), Chris Pantelis (19) and Andrew Casey (15) led the way.

Freeport 65, Kiski School 58 — Nolan Plocki scored 17 points to lead Freeport past Kiski School in the first round of the Freeport tip-off tournament. Jalen Brown added 15 points for Freeport (1-0), which will play Class 5A No. 1 Mars in the championship game at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Springdale 63, Quigley Catholic 44 — Mike Zolnierczyk scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead tournament host Springdale (1-0) to a win over Quigley Catholic (0-1). Demitri Fritch added 17 points for the Dynamos, and Ben Myford scored 13. Springdale plays Bishop Canevin in the championship at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Riverview 62, Trinity Christian 19 — Noah Black led all scorers with 14 points as Riverview opened the season with a nonconference win over Trinity Christian (0-1). Nate Black and Thanny Black added 12 points each for Riverview (1-0).

St. Joseph 56, Propel Braddock Hills 32 — Grant Bendis turned in a double-double performance with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Andrew Sullivan scored a game-high 18 points and Daniel Fábregas added 12 as St. Joseph (1-0) rolled past Propel Braddock Hills (0-1) in the St. Joseph tip-off tournament. The Spartans will face Cornell (1-0) at 8:15 p.m. Saturday for the championship.

Pine-Richland 82, Highlands 50 — Class 6A No. 1 Pine-Richland (1-0) used a 17-2 run in the fourth quarter to pull away from Class 4A No. 3 Highlands (0-1) in a nonsection game. Johnny Crise had a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Golden Rams, and Seth Cohen scored 11 points. Greg Shulkosky led Pine-Richland with 20 points.

Cornell 75, Deer Lakes 58 — A 46-point effort from Kaden DiVito, including seven 3-pointers, led Class A No. 2 Cornell (1-0) to a win over Deer Lakes on the opening day of the St. Joseph tournament. Brad Perrotte scored 24 to lead Deer Lakes (0-1), and Zac Herbinko added 13. The Lancers will play Propel Braddock Hills in the consolation game at 4:45 p.m. Saturday.

Mars 73, Burrell 30 — Andrew Recchia had 19 points for the Fightin’ Planets and Khori Fusco scored 18 to surpass 1,000 for his career as Mars (1-0) won at the Freeport tournament.

Armstrong 37, Knoch 32 — Isaiah Price scored 17 points to lead Armstrong (1-0) past Knoch (0-1) at the Armstrong tournament.

Latrobe 90, Altoona 70 — Reed Fenton had 42 points and knocked down 10 3-pointers as the Latrobe secured a victory over Altoona at the Canon-McMillan tournament.

Bryce Butler added 17 points for the Class 6A No. 2-ranked Wildcats (1-0).

Derry 59, Kiski Area 46 — John Kerr scored 21 points and had 15 points and eight blocks to lead Derry to a win over Kiski Area in the first round of the Derry tournament. Justin Huss scored 12 points for Derry (1-0). Jason Baker scored 12 points and Kyrell Hutcherson scored 11 points for Kiski Area (0-1).

Ligonier Valley 86, Berlin Brothersvalley 72 — Marrek Paola scored 26 points to guide Ligonier Valley (1-0) to a win at the Derry tournament. Matthew Marinchak had 17 points, and Michael Marinchak added 15 in the win.

Norwin 49, Ringgold 48 — Ty Bilinsky had 19 points to guide Norwin (1-0) to a victory at the Mt. Pleasant tournament. The Knights led 34-23 at halftime.

Penn-Trafford 68, Elizabeth Forward 24 — Kevin Stinelli had 18 points, and Chris Abreu scored 15 as Penn-Trafford (1-0) won at its host tournament.

Yough 54, West Greene 50 — Jarett Bach had 17 points, and Gamal Marballie added 15 to help Yough (1-0) earn a win at the Brownsville tournament. The Cougars led 40-28 after three quarters.

Wrestling

Waynesburg Central 34, Burrell 33 — Ryan Howard’s 7-2 decision over Mason Slahtovsky at 220 pounds in the final bout of the match gave Class AAA No. 5 Waynesburg a nonsection win over Class AA No. 1 Burrell. The match was tied 33-33, but Waynesburg won on criteria based on the number of individual bouts won; the Raiders (1-0) took eight of 14, including the final three, to rally for the win. A.J. Corrado, Bryan Gaul and Austin Mele had pins for Burrell (0-1).

Eastern Area Invitational — Kiski Area has seven wrestlers in the winner’s bracket after the quarterfinal round of the Eastern Area Invitational at Gateway. The Cavaliers (95.5 points) are trailed by Trinity (80.5), Mt. Lebanon (79), Penn-Trafford (76.5) and West Allegheny (75).
