When the night began, Chartiers Valley and Trinity were next door neighbors in the Section 2-5A standings with both teams even in the loss column.

However on the court Friday night, the Colts and Hillers were worlds apart.

After beating Trinity by 23 points last month, Chartiers Valley was king of the hill again in the rematch by jumping out to a 22-5 first quarter lead en route to a 90-63 romp.

The win improves the Colts to 6-2 in the section and 10-3 overall, while the Hillers drop to 4-3 and fall into fourth place, a half-game behind Montour.

“Simplify things is something we’ve been working on lately,” first-year Chartiers Valley coach Brandon Sensor said. “I’m not going to say we were in a slump, but we just weren’t clicking.”

The Colts brought their behind-the-arc shooting shoes with them as they hit on 15 3-pointers and were up 50-19 by halftime.

Sensor said the 3s were nice, but he liked the work inside the paint by his team, as well.

“I was more pleased with getting the ball inside. We scored a lot inside. Our post players working the high-low and feeding each other opened things up for 3’s. That the best we’ve looked all year.”

Chartiers Valley built its lead to as many as 39 points before settling in for a 27-point victory.

The Colts had 12 players on the scoresheet and three score in double digits.

“We got a couple of guys right now who are on fire.” Sensor said. “Jared Goldstrom has had a great couple of weeks where he’s not missing many shots.”

The junior Goldstrom led all scorers with 22 points, including six 3-pointers. Joe Pipilo added 15 points and Sean Banas scored 11.

When the Colts did miss, they helped build their early lead by tracking down offensive rebounds and loose balls for second or third chance opportunities on offense.

“That’s another thing we have stressed recently is getting after the offensive boards a little better than we were and getting more hustle points,” said Senor.

Junior Michael Koroly led Trinity (7-7, 4-3) with 19 points while senior Jake Hanchar added 10.
