High school roundup for March 25, 2019: Riverside’s Ottaviani tosses no-hitter

Nic Ottaviani had quite the debut outing Monday afternoon.

The senior lefty tossed a no-hitter with nine strikeouts to lead Riverside to a 1-0 victory over Freedom in a nonsection baseball game in Beaver County.

Ottaviani also knocked in the lone run of the game with a single in the third inning.

Ben Hughes was 2 for 3 with a double for Riverside (1-0).

Noah Henderson threw a six-hitter and took the loss for Freedom (0-1).

Armstrong 4, Ellwood City 1 — Eddie Morris had a double, and Eli Wiles and Noah Cyphert knocked in runs for Armstrong (1-0) in a nonsection victory. Caleb Harriger threw a one-hitter with five strikeouts to earn the win.

Mohawk 8, Union 2 — Tyler Cummings had three hits, and Bret Pitzer, Ryan Parry and Joe Leslie all had two RBIs as Mohawk (1-0) won a nonsection game.

New Brighton 16, Ambridge 5 (5 inn.) — Noah Wijnen-Riems was 4 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs as New Brighton (1-1) won a nonsection game.

Greensburg Salem 13, North Hills 2 — Reid Admunson smacked two run-scoring doubles and had four RBIs to lead Greensburg Salem to a nonsection victory over North Hills (0-1).

Jack Oberdorf was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, and Jack McBride knocked in two runs for the Golden Lions (1-0).

Matt Wicker allowed six hits and had four strikeouts over five innings to earn the win.

Franklin Regional 10, Medina, Ohio 5 — Mike Klingensmith and Tom Kegerreis each had three hits and three RBIs to guide Franklin Regional (1-0) to a nonsection win.

Steel Valley 11, Greensburg Central Catholic 4 — Brady Miller was 3 for 4 in leading Steel Valley (1-1) to a nonsection victory. Ben LaCarte took the loss for the Centurions (0-1), who were held to five hits by winning pitcher Aiden Good.

Softball

South Allegheny 11, Buckeye Valley, Ohio 1 — Madison Kirkwood doubled and tripled to help South Allegheny (6-0) win at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach. Cortney Woytovich stuck out four in the win.

Madison Taylor hit a two-run home run to lift South Allegheny to a 5-2 win over Padua Francisca, Ohio in another game Monday.
