MONDAY
Softball: Ten area teams remain in the mix for WPIAL championships as most classifications shift to the quarterfinals.
In Class 5A, top-seeded Penn-Trafford will take on Albert Gallatin at 5 p.m. at Seton Hill, and Franklin Regional faces Hampton at the same time at Fox Chapel.
Unbeaten Mt. Pleasant resumes play after a bye as it plays Ringgold at 3 p.m. at Seton Hill in Class 4A. Yough plays Thomas Jefferson at 6 p.m. at Peters Township, and upstart Greensburg Salem meets Knoch at 3 p.m. at Hampton.
In Class 3A, defending champion Southmoreland faces top-seeded Avonworth at 5 p.m. at North Allegheny, and Jeannette faces Leechburg in Class A at 3 p.m. at Fox Chapel.
The District 6 quarterfinals have Heritage Conference champion Ligonier Valley hosting Central at 4 p.m..
Baseball: No. 1 seed Greensburg Salem continues along a potential collision course with No. 2 Yough. Both teams will be in action in the Class 4A quarterfinals. Greensburg Salem plays New Castle at 4 p.m. at Fox Chapel, and Yough meets South Park at 4 p.m. at West Mifflin. Also in that class, Mt. Pleasant faces Blackhawk at 2 p.m. at Fox Chapel.
In Class A, Greensburg Central Catholic battles Quigley at 4 p.m. at Kiski Area.
In District 6, Ligonier Valley takes on Mount Union in the Class 3A quarterfinals.
TUESDAY
Baseball: Class 6A No. 1 seed Penn-Trafford returns after a bye to face Upper St. Clair in a quarterfinal at 4 p.m. at West Mifflin, and Norwin goes against Pine-Richland at 6:30 p.m. at Boyce-Mayview Park in Upper St. Clair.
In the Class 5A quarters, No. 2 seed Franklin Regional should be well-rested as it meets South Fayette at 2 at West Mifflin.
Boys volleyball: Latrobe has reached the WPIAL Class AAA semifinals but will have to get past top-seeded North Allegheny to reach the finals. The teams square off at 7:30 p.m. at Fox Chapel.
In Class AA, No. 1 seed Derry plays Ambridge in the semifinals.
WEDNESDAY
Softball: Could it be an all-Westmoreland title game again in Class 6A? Hempfield and Norwin could meet in the finals if both score semifinal wins.
Hempfield takes on Seneca Valley, and Norwin faces North Allegheny. Times and sites have not been announced.
Semifinals in the other classes also are scheduled to be played on this day.
THURSDAY
Boys volleyball: The WPIAL championships will be played at Fox Chapel with Class AA at 6 p.m. and Class AAA at 8 p.m.
FRIDAY
Track and field: The WPIAL championships had a new venue last week with Slippery Rock hosting the event, but the PIAA championships will return to a common venue: Shippensburg’s Seth Grove Stadium.
Action begins at 9 a.m. with the 3,200-meter relay and some field event prelims and finals.
SATURDAY
Track and field: Day 2 of the PIAA championships begins at 9 a.m. with the 3,200 run and a number of prelims and finals in select field events.
