SHIPPENSBURG — Aliquippa has a storied history of all-time great all-around athletes who wore the Quips’ red and black.
M.J. Devonshire surely solidified his spot on that list.
The senior won the 100- and 200-meter dashes Saturday at the PIAA Class AA track and field championships, giving him two state track gold medals to add to the state football gold he won in the fall.
“I try to put myself in the argument, it would be nice,” said Devonshire, a Kentucky football recruit, “but I just let the other people debate it for me. If they put me up there, they put me up there. Not a lot of guys have one of these.”

Devonshire won the 100 meters in 10.85 seconds, defeating Southern Columbia junior Julian Fleming and Bishop McDevitt’s Tyler Byrd by nearly three-tenths of a second. Both finished in 11.12.
He later won the 200 meters in 21.85 seconds and helped his 400-meter relay team place third (42.91).
“It’s exciting just to get another ring on my finger,” Devonshire said.
