Early indications say the WPIAL Class of 2023 will be special.
That group is just now entering high school this fall, but at least three basketball players from that incoming freshman class already have Division I offers.
Laurel Highlands’ Rodney Gallagher, Indiana’s Eve Fiala and North Allegheny’s Jasmine Timmerson all announced scholarship offers in the past three weeks.
Gallagher, a shooting guard, received an offer Wednesday from Illinois. The middle school phenom played AAU basketball on a team with LeBron James’ son LeBron Jr.
Fiala received an offer Tuesday from Ohio State. As a 6-foot-4 forward, she’s already earning attention on the AAU circuit.
Timmerson, a point guard, announced an offer from Duquesne on June 27. Her father Wade Timmerson was a 30-point scorer at Fort Cherry and is inducted into the Robert Morris athletics hall of fame.
Fiala and Timmerson play AAU basketball for the Western Pa. Bruins.
