Beaver hires new athletic director

The Beaver Area School District has found a new athletic director. The Bobcat’s new A.D. is Alan Alcalde who previously served as the athletic director for Propel Schools, a charter school network in Allegheny County.

A former Spanish teacher, Alcalde stepped into the athletic director position at Propel Schools after the departure of Ronald Coursey, who is currently the A.D. of the Woodland Hills School District. During his time at Propel Schools, he expanded the athletic program from one high school to three high schools and eight middle schools. “We knew that athletics were an important part of our student’s and families lives. I was very fortunate to have received the support from the superintendent [Dr. Tina Chekan] to lead such an initiative” says Alcalde.

Alcalde is no stranger to athletics after his 4-year interscholastic career for legendary soccer coach, Dennis Laskey, at California University (PA). Additionally, he has had coaching stints on the youth, high school, and intercollegiate levels most recently with the Steel Valley High School boys soccer team.

Now, he is tasked with leading one of the most competitive athletic programs in Beaver County history. “I am truly thankful for the opportunity that the superintendent [Dr. Carrie Rowe] and the school board have provided me with. I am excited and firmly committed to delivering a high quality and competitive athletic program that all members of the school community will benefit from.” Alcalde’s first day on the job was Tuesday, October 1st.
