Leaders hang on to top spots in latest coaches association WPIAL girls volleyball rankings

North Allegheny, Hampton, Freeport and Bishop Canevin each held on to their No. 1 rankings in the latest Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association WPIAL girls top-10 polls released Monday morning.

There was a shakeup near the top in Class A as Frazier moved up to No. 2 from its No. 4 spot last week. The Commodores, 5-0 overall and at the top of Section 2 with a 4-0 record, defeated section foes Geibel and California last week.

Frazier will take on Class 2A No. 8 Southmoreland (7-0) in a nonsection clash Monday evening.

In Class 4A, Upper St. Clair bumped up two spots to No. 4 with a strong week of play.

The Panthers defeated Baldwin and Bethel Park in Section 2. They take on Class 4A No. 8 Peters Township on Tuesday.

Moving into the rankings this week are Fox Chapel in Class 4A; Southmoreland and Keystone Oaks in Class 2A; and Mapletown, Burgettstown and California in Class A.

Each week, every WPIAL girls volleyball head coach will has the opportunity to vote for the teams who will appear in the top 10 for each classification.

Also, the Players of the Week are selected based on coaches’ nominations.
