On Tuesday, there was a boys soccer battle between Seneca Valley and North Allegheny. On Wednesday, it will be a Class 4A girls soccer first-place showdown with the Raiders and Tigers.

In the last 10 years, these two programs have dominated the highest classification. Seneca Valley won district gold in 2013, ‘14 and ‘18, while North Allegheny captured WPIAL titles in 2019, ‘20 and last fall.

Both teams have been dominant this season as well.

Seneca Valley is 6-0 in the section, 8-0 overall and has outscored opponents in overwhelming fashion, 47-3.

North Allegheny is also 6-0 in the section, 9-0 overall and has scored 54 goals while only allowing eight.

The match is at 7:30 p.m. and can be heard here Trib HSSN.

Another unbeaten section clash on the pitch

Seneca Valley at North Allegheny isn’t the only WPIAL girls soccer clash between undefeated section foes on Wednesday.

In Section 3-2A, Southmoreland visits Mt. Pleasant with first place up for grabs.

Both teams are 4-0 in the section with the Scotties sitting at 5-2 overall and the Vikings at 6-2.

Mt. Pleasant has won five straight games after a 1-2 start, while Southmoreland has registered three straight shutout victories since losing a nonsection match to Penn Hills.

Neither team has allowed a goal in four section wins.

The two teams have also separated themselves from the rest of the section as they both sit two games in front of Woodland Hills and Yough and four games up on the playoff chase.

Love means nothing

The first postseason of the new school year will take place Wednesday at two sites with the 2023 WPIAL girls singles tennis championships.

The first round, quarterfinals and semifinals for Class 3A qualifiers will take place at Bethel Park, starting at 10 a.m. The first three rounds of the Class 2A tournament are at the same time at North Allegheny.

Of the 31 players, 15 are seniors and 16 are underclassmen.

One of the underclassmen is the defending champion in Class 3A, Amelia Williams. The Penn-Trafford sophomore captured gold as a freshman and is the top seed in the 2023 Class 3A bracket.

Winchester Thurston junior Cecilia Gurgel is the top seed in Class 2A and has the only bye.
