WPIAL Class 3A football roundup: West Mifflin freshman Armand Hill runs for 495 yards, 5 TDs

Freshman Armand Hill ran for 495 yards and five touchdowns to lead playoff-bound West Mifflin to a 42-7 victory over Hopewell (1-8, 0-5) in Class 3A Western Hills Conference play Friday night.

Hill’s total is the second-highest single-game rushing total in WPIAL history behind Mapletown’s Dylan Rush, who ran for 527 yards in 2017. Hill scored on runs of 75, 40, 61, 7 and 26 yards.

Ty Leonard also scored on a 25-yard run for West Mifflin (5-4, 4-1).

Mt. Pleasant 42, South Allegheny 27 – Cole Chatfield found Jarett Garn on a 41-yard touchdown strike and hit Brady Poole on a 37-yard scoring pass as the Vikings (6-3, 2-2) rolled to an Interstate Conference win at South Allegheny (1-8, 0-4) and locked up a playoff berth. Poole also scored on a 5-yard run.

Brody Hutter found the end zone on runs of 6 and 16 yards and Dante Giallonardo also scored on a 5-yard run. Garn added a 35-yard field goal.

Avonworth 35, Seton LaSalle 20 — In the Western Hills Conference, Carson Bellinger threw for 116 yards and one touchdown as No. 3 Avonworth (9-0, 5-0) eliminated Seton LaSalle (4-5, 2-4) from playoff contention.

Beaver 56, Quaker Valley 7 — Quay Cain ran for 136 yards and a touchdown as Beaver (7-2, 3-2) clinched a playoff berth by defeating Quaker Valley (1-8, 1-4) in Western Hills Conference play. Drey Hall added 103 rushing yards and two touchdowns for Beaver.

McGuffey 31, South Park 14 — Dylan Stewart kicked three field goals as Class 2A McGuffey (7-2) defeated Class 3A South Park (6-3).
