With the start of a new year, it’s time to start ranking the best high school girls basketball teams across the state.

Each week until the final buzzer in Hershey in mid-March, Trib HSSN will rank the top five teams in each classification.

Here is a reminder of the PIAA girls basketball champions from the 2022-23 season.

District 12 swept the big school titles with Archbishop Carroll in 6A, Archbishop Wood in 5A and Lansdale Catholic in 4A winning state gold.

The other three winners were Dunmore from District 2 in 3A, Kennedy Catholic from District 10 in 2A and Union from the WPIAL in Class A.

In the inaugural PIAA poll, five of the six defending champs are ranked, and four of them are sitting in a familiar spot at No. 1.
