Burrell crowns 5 section champs, sends all 13 wrestlers through to WPIAL tournament

Burrell had five champs and advanced all 13 wrestlers to the WPIAL championships at the Class 2A Eastern Sectional tournament Saturday at Greensburg Salem.

Cam Baker (107), Luca Rosa (121), Cooper Hornack (139), Isaac Lacinski (172) and Luke Boylan (215) won titles for the Bucs.

Hampton led the way with nine WPIAL qualifiers. Derry had eight, including champs Anthony Mucci (114), Mason Horwat (145) and Brady Brown (189). Indiana also had eight qualifiers and three champs – Nico Fanella (127), Carter Putt (133) and Will Turner (160).

Highlands’ Kyren Veasley (152) and Laurel’s Casey Wilson (285) also won section titles.

Northern Sectional – At Keystone Oaks, Quaker Valley crowned four champions and sent 10 wrestlers to the WPIAL tournament. Champs were Bruce Anderchak (107), Jack Kazalas (133), Matthew Danna (139) and Marcus Richey (152).

Central Valley had three champs – Antonio Boni (121), Don Lindsey (127) and Brenan Morgan (285) – and three other qualifiers.

Carlynton crowned Jermell Lindsey (172) and Braiden Sudor (215) and sent three other wrestlers through to WPIALs.

Avonworth, Hopewell and Montour each had one champ and eight WPIAL qualifiers. Champs were Avonworth’s Auston Kosanovic (114), Hopewell’s Isaiah Pisano (160) and Montour’s Rook Smith (145). South Side’s Slayton Williams (189) also took home a section title.

Southern Sectional – At Burgettstown, the host Blue Devils led the way with three section champs and 10 WPIAL qualifiers. Parker Sentipal (133), Gaven Suica (139) and Rudy Brown (152) won titles.

Bentworth also crowned three champs – Drake McClure (114), Chris Vargo (127) and Vitali Daniels (189) – and had two other qualifiers.

McGuffey sent eight wrestlers to WPIALs, including champs Tucker Main (107) and Emmett Wolfe (121). Mt. Pleasant had seven qualifiers, including champions Jamison Poklembo (145) and Dylan Pitzer (285).

Other section champs were Frazier’s Ryan Celaschi (160) and Rune Lawrence (215) and Belle Vernon’s Elijah Brown.
