North Allegheny notebook: Tigers softball team tops Norwin

Anne Melle singled, doubled and drove in two runs and McKenna Rowlands doubled in a run to lead North Allegheny to a 6-5 victory over Norwin in a Section 1-6A softball game May 1.

Sammy Plotsko allowed four hits and had seven strikeouts to earn the win for the Tigers, who moved to 9-5 overall and in section play, good for third place behind Seneca Valley (13-1) and Hempfield (12-1) in the Class 6A standings.

The WPIAL playoff pairings will be announced Thursday (May 9).

NA track teams advance to WPIAL finals

North Allegheny’s boys and girls track and field teams earned berths to the WPIAL team championships after winning their semifinal pod May 1.

The boys defeated Hampton, 132-18, Canon-McMillan, 102-48, and Blackhawk, 121-29. The NA girls beat Hempfield, 88-62, Canon-McMillan, 96-54, and Blackhawk, 130-20.

The championships were set for Tuesday at West Mifflin.

Lyon hits 100-goal milestone

North Allegheny senior Evan Lyon had five goals and surpassed 100 for his career as the Tigers’ boys lacrosse team defeated Seneca Valley, 16-6, on May 1.

Nick Sichak (5), Jacob Clarkson, Sam Porter, Travis Lamark, Jonathan Castillo (3) and Adam Flavell also scored for the Tigers, who improved to 10-6 overall and 6-1 in Section 2-3A.

Logan Lyle made nine saves in goal.

NA volleyball blanks Butler

North Allegheny’s boys volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 win over Butler on April 30.

Game scores were 25-20, 25-23, 25-16.

Stone Gaertner and Peter Bratich each had 10 kills. Nicolas Carioto had 25 assists.

The Tigers entered the week ranked second in the state with an 8-1 overall record and in section 2-3A.

Girls lacrosse team caps section play

North Allegheny’s girls lacrosse team wrapped up plan in Section 2-3A with a 16-9 victory over North Hills on April 25.

Reagan Riordan scored five times, and Isla Abrams had four goals. Madelyn Lemmon (3), Avery Anderson (3) and Sarah Harlan also scored for North Allegheny.

Izzie Trunzo had 12 saves in the win.

The playoff-bound Tigers improved to 5-6 overall and 5-4 in section play, securing fourth place in Section 2.
