Golf notebook: Neal Shipley in the hunt at PGA Tour event in Kentucky

Mt. Lebanon native Neal Shipley is playing in his third consecutive PGA Tour event this weekend, and for the second time, he has made the cut.

Shipley shot a 7-under par 65 Friday and is 12-under for the tournament at the ISCO Championship at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Ky. He is tied for 11th, four strokes off the lead held by Pierceson Coody.

His second round included six birdies and an eagle.

Shipley, a Central Catholic graduate, finished tied for 20th in his first PGA Tour event, the Rocket Mortgage Classic, and missed the cut at the John Deere Classic.

Westmoreland County Amateur

The annual Westmoreland County Golf Association’s Amateur Championship will be held Saturday and Sunday at Hannastown Golf Club.

The field includes Palmer Jackson, Sean Knapp, Nick Turowski, Gregor Meyer, Arnie Cutrell, Ronald and David DeNunzio and Kevin and Brian Fajt.

There are 48 players in the field and action begins both days at 12:30 p.m.
