Trafford wins Junior title; West Point advances to finals

Dom Delio took a perfect game into the seventh inning Tuesday to lead Trafford to a 6-1 victory against 14th Ward (Woodland Hills) in the Westmoreland Junior League Championship.

Jason Peyton led off the top of the seventh inning with a single to center. He came around to score on a bases-loaded walk.

Evan Gigliotti relieved Delio with the bases loaded and two outs and ended the game with a strikeout.

Trafford took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Cameron King singled and came around to score on Caleb Kerstetter’s infield single.

The lead went to 5-0 in the fourth inning on a bases-loaded, two-run double by Gigliotti, a bases-loaded walk to Peyton Mastro and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to Jordan White.

Ben Grabowski led off the fifth inning with a home run to left field.

Trafford collected 10 hits, two each by Kerstetter, Grabowski and Delio.

Delio fanned 10.

Trafford advances to the Western Regional on Friday at Homer City.

West Point 3, Indiana 2

West Point forced a final game at the Pennsylvania Little League Softball Major Division Championship by handing unbeaten Indiana a 3-2 defeat at Wellsboro.

The winner-take-all game to see who represents the state in the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Bristol, Conn., will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Lexi Stabile struck out 10, allowing one hit and two runs. She outdueled Indiana’s Ella Worthington, who struck out eight.

West Point scored a run in the third inning on a wild pitch.

Morgan Maiers and Braylyn Graft had two hits for West Point, and Rian Starz had a hit and two RBIs.

West Point, which has won four-consecutive games after losing Friday, didn’t commit an error.
