Alex Clawson

Apollo-Ridge, jr., QB/DB

Despite an 0-3 start to the season, the Vikings have been competitive, and Clawson, a first-year starter at quarterback, has been a big part of the work toward getting that first victory. Clawson has completed 48 of 69 passes for 631 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions. In a suspended game against GCC on Friday, he went 18 of 19 for 237 yards and a pair of TD strikes. Clawson also has 19 carries for 101 yards. He will be front and center Friday as Apollo-Ridge attempts to get in the win column at Carlynton.

Players to watch

Tim Andrasy

Leechburg, jr., RB/CB

Blue Devils quarterback Jayden Floyd had a big game last Friday with 254 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries. But not to be forgotten in the offense was Andrasy, who had 14 carries for 49 yards and a touchdown in the 48-27 victory over Serra Catholic. Coach Randy Walters praised Andrasy for his hard running on offense as well as strong efforts on defense playing multiple positions.

Tevin Owen-Cratsenberg

Highlands, fr., RB/DB

After not playing at New Castle last Friday because of bad weather, Highlands returns home Friday to open Allegheny 7 Conference play against East Allegheny. Owen-Cratsenberg hopes to continue to make his mark in his first varsity season. In two games, the freshman’s presence has been felt in the form of a combined 21 tackles, along with a sack and a fumble recovery. He tallied a team-best 13 stops in the wild 53-52, three-overtime victory over Elizabeth Forward in Week 1 at Golden Rams Stadium.

Teegan Shirley

Kiski Area, so., WR/DB

Shirley played a part in the Cavaliers’ attempt at a comeback against Hempfield last Friday in a nonconference game at Richard Dilts Stadium. He hauled in a 19-yard touchdown pass from Carson Heinle to get Kiski on the board in the first quarter at 14-7 and finished with four catches for 63 yards. Defensively, he led the team with six tackles and also intercepted a pass in the 31-29 loss to the Spartans.
