Through the Years: Kiski Area collected milestone win in 2019

Kiski Area won the 300th game in school history with a 21-17 decision at Hampton on Sept. 27, 2019. Kenny Blake scored all three Cavaliers touchdowns.
100 years ago
• A local sports tradition began as Har-Brack High School played its first football game and came up a winner, 13-10, over Arnold on Sept. 27, 1924, at Birdville Field. Lute Carson scored the first touchdown in school history on a 5-yard run late in the half.
75 years ago
• Tarentum extended its unbeaten streak to 22 games with a 19-14 decision over Springdale on Bob Glod’s third quarter scoring run.
60 years ago
• East Deer-Frazer remained undefeated with a 19-0 victory at Shannock Valley. Bucks quarterback Joe Novosat scored on a 2-yard keeper and tossed a 27-yarder to Larry Kushner for another TD.
• Oakmont pounded Coraopolis, 37-6, behind a pair of TD passes from Rob Erdeljac to Stan Flowers. Coraopolis was coached by future Pitt head coach and NFL assistant Foge Fazio.
50 years ago
• Plum junior Mark Pupilli scored on runs of 50 and 45 yards to lift the Mustangs to a 28-13 victory over Moon.
• Springdale’s Joe Remaley ran for three touchdowns as the Dynamos handed Hampton its first loss of the year, 29-19, at Tarentum’s Dreshar Stadium.
40 years ago
• Knoch stunned Valley, 22-21, with no time showing on the clock. Vikings receiver Tony Orsini caught a pass with 4 seconds left to give the Vikings the lead, but Knoch’s Jarod Schmeider returned the kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown and fullback Bill Rumbaugh powered over for the 2-point conversion,
• Sophomore fullback Jeff Christy ran for three Freeport TDs as the Yellowjackets hammered Ford City, 41-20.
25 years ago
• Burrell took advantage of three first-half Derry turnovers, leading to a 28-6 victory. Greg Mazzei recovered a Trojans fumble in the end zone on the opening kickoff.
• Ford City’s Adam Peck threw four TD passes in the first half as the Sabers rolled past Deer Lakes, 42-14.
10 years ago
• Kevin Brown ran for five Plum touchdowns as the Mustangs set a single-game school scoring record by blasting Kiski Area, 65-0.
• Highlands rallied from a 21-point deficit to defeat Apollo-Ridge, 28-27, before an overflow crowd at Golden Rams Stadium. A pass from Brayden Thimons to Jordan Lineburg and subsequent PAT from Sam Elliott secured the victory.
Five years ago
• Riverview defeated Imani Christian, 21-20, for its first win of the season. With 4 minutes, 5 seconds left, Zach Hanlon’s 9-yard touchdown run and 2-point conversion won it.
