High school roundup for Sept. 27, 2024: Quaker Valley girls win clash with rival Sewickley Academy

Ari Bosh netted a pair of goals to lead Quaker Valley to a 4-2 victory over Sewickley Academy (6-2-1) in a nonsection girls soccer rivalry matchup Friday afternoon. Emma Currier and June Lukasavage also scored for the Quaker (9-2-1).

Seton LaSalle 7, Serra Catholic 1 – Angelina McGrath had a hat trick, Sydney Morgan added a pair of goals and Anna Porter and Kendall DeMarino also scored for Seton LaSalle (8-1-2, 7-0-1) in a Section 3-A win over Serra Catholic (0-9, 0-8).

Girls tennis

Section 1-3A – Top-seeded Michelle Yan and Makinzie Marcus of Franklin Regional claimed a section doubles title, defeating second-seeded Carlin Bukovac and Allison Massaro of Latrobe in the finals, 6-3, 6-3. It was the second straight section doubles title for Yan, who won with Ellen Liu last year.

Penn-Trafford’s Elle LeJeune and Annabelle Aquino defeated Latrobe’s Brook Coll and Maria Fetter in straight sets in the third-place match. In Class 3A, the top four finishers advance to the WPIAL tournament Wednesday and Thursday.

Section 4-3A – Mt. Lebanon juniors Jackie Tang and Michelle Yang, the top seeds, won a section doubles title with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over sixth-seeded Kaitlin Kuczinski and Carly Weber of Chartiers Valley. Mya and Leila Hamada defeated Catalina Ramirez and Anna Engleman in three sets in an all-Upper St. Clair match for third place.

Section 1-2A – Top seeds Sasha Hoffman and Emilia Longhi of Greensburg Central Catholic captured a section doubles title with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over second-seeded Ryleigh Drzal and Danica Trainer of Mt. Pleasant.

It was the second section doubles title for Hoffman, who won with Gigi Pediconi in 2022. She also teamed with Stella Bossert to reach the WPIAL doubles finals last year.

In an all-Valley third-place match, 11th-seeded Alexandra Thomey and Karrigan Thomey knocked off fourth-seeded Sophie Harclerode and Lena Fabian, 1-6, 6-1, 6-0. In Class 2A, the top three teams advance to the WPIAL tournament Wednesday and Thursday.
