Girls soccer showdowns

Monday marks the start of the final two weeks of the WPIAL girls soccer regular season.

One section where the top spot is up for grabs is in Section 4-2A when Mt. Pleasant visits Deer Lakes.

The Vikings are alone in first place with a perfect 6-0 section record and 10-1 overall. They have outscored their 11 opponents this season, 64-5.

The Lancers are a game back at 5-1 in the section and 7-2-2 overall.

Deer Lakes has won five straight matches since losing at Mt. Pleasant on Sept. 9, 5-0.

In Section 3-4A, the two teams chasing front running Seneca Valley (6-0, 8-2-1) collide on Monday when Pine-Richland (7-3) visits North Allegheny (7-5).

The Rams are 5-1 in the section and currently in second place, one game behind the Raiders and one game ahead of the Tigers at 4-2.

Pine-Richland edged North Allegheny on Sept. 9, 1-0.

Listen to the match starting at 7:30 p.m. on Trib HSSN.

As close as it gets

A key boys soccer Section 1-2A match Monday will finally bring some separation to two teams deadlocked for first place, unless of course the showdown ends in an overtime tie.

The 2022 WPIAL 2A champion, Deer Lakes, battles North Catholic for the top spot at J.C. Stone Field in North Park.

Both the Lancers and Trojans are 7-1 in the section, both are 9-2 overall this season, and both have yielded five goals in eight section games and only nine goals overall this season.

The only difference record-wise is Deer Lakes has also played to a tie in nonsection play.

The Lancers have won three in a row and are unbeaten in their last six games (5-0-1).

The Trojans have won eight straight since losing 1-0 at Deer Lakes on Aug. 25.
