Imani Christian basketball player Kieshaun Demus, a sophomore who transferred from North Hills, was ruled ineligible for his sophomore season by the WPIAL.

WPIAL executive director Scott Seltzer said the board found Demus’ transfer was motivated at least partially by athletics following an eligibility hearing Monday. One concern for the WPIAL was whether Demus had played in a summer league with Imani’s players and coach prior to enrolling at the private school in East Hills.

Seltzer said there were other factors involved as well, but declined to discuss them since both schools had requested the hearing be closed to the public. Any potential rules violation committed by coaches would be discussed at the WPIAL board meeting in October, Seltzer said.

Demus was one of three transfers ruled ineligible Monday, joining Baldwin sophomore Dre’on Fuller and Avonworth freshman Jackson May. Fuller transferred from McKeesport and May came from North Hills. Both play football. Seltzer said the WPIAL board found their transfers also were motivated by athletics.

Their schools can appeal to the PIAA.

Demus is a 6-foot-3 guard and announced his first college offer from Pepperdine in early September.

Girls basketball player Lindsey Gaskey, a transfer from Ligonier Valley to Latrobe, was ruled eligible Monday following her hearing.
