The third and final day of the district individual golf championships is set for Wednesday with the top boys Class 2A golfers taking center stage.

Weather-wise, it should be the best of the final rounds as the elite boys 2A golfers invade the Sewickley Heights Golf Club in Sewickley.

McGuffey senior Logan Crowe holds a razor-thin one-stroke lead after shooting a 1-over-par 73 in the first round of the championships last Monday at the Youghiogheny Country Club in Elizabeth.

Two golfers shot a 2-over 74 in the opening round and are one stroke back entering the final 18 holes. They are Quaker Valley senior Ethan Dai and Shady Side Academy senior Landon Mauser.

Rounding out the top 11 on the leaderboard are Laurel junior Eli Bintrim at 3-over 75, Greensburg Central Catholic senior Braden Riley, Neshannock sophomore Rocco Bautti and Elizabeth Forward sophomore Aaron Didjunas at 5-over 77 and Shady Side Academy senior Ryan Frolich, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart junior Jonah Schollaert, Sewickley Academy senior Severin Harmon and Ellwood City junior Jordan Keller at 6-over 78

The top 18 finishers will qualify for the PIAA Class 2A championships Oct. 21-23 at the Penn State Golf Courses in State College.

Two for one on the pitch

Wednesday will be another big day full of section matches up and down the four classifications in WPIAL girls soccer.

First place in two sections will be at stake in Class 3A between four teams with a total combined overall record this season of 43-4-2.

In Section 1-3A, front running Fox Chapel (12-0-1) is home to second place Mars (11-1).

The Foxes are a perfect 9-0 in the section while the Fightin’ Planets are 7-1.

Mars has won six straight matches since its only blemish of the season, a 1-0 home loss to the Foxes.

Fox Chapel has won five in a row since its only blemish this fall, a 2-2 tie with Class 4A Seneca Valley.

In Section 2-3A, first-place Moon (10-1) visits second-place West Allegheny (10-2-1).

The Indians have won seven consecutive matches since losing 1-0 at Moon on Sept. 6.

The Tigers have won seven straight games since their only loss of the season to Class 4A Pine-Richland, 2-0.

All seven wins since that loss for Moon have been shutout victories.
