Fox Chapel girls soccer coach Carlo Prati has been consistent all season. He has continuously reminded people around the program that defending the WPIAL championship wasn’t going to be easy, even as the Foxes went down in classification.
Fox Chapel, which was seeded No. 1 in the girls 3A tournament, only allowed eight goals all season and ran away with the Section 1-3A crown. However, the Foxes (15-2-1, 10-0) played two difficult games to close the season.
Fox Chapel was tripped up 2-1 by perennial Class 4A power Peters Township, while the Foxes were also defeated by defending WPIAL Class 3A champion South Fayette, 2-1. The Foxes were scheduled to face No. 16 Indiana in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs, but the results of that match were too late for this edition.
Fox Chapel, led by sophomore Emily McKee, who has more than 50 goals in her young career, won’t be able to sneak up on anybody this season.
The Fox Chapel boys’ soccer team also earned a No. 3 seed in the Class 4A playoffs. That is a good setup for the Foxes, who earned a first-round bye and will meet the winner of Pine-Richland and Upper St. Clair on Oct. 26 at home.
Foxes make semifinals
The Fox Chapel girls tennis team reached the semifinals of the WPIAL Class 3A team tournament. The Foxes’ run to a title was halted by Mt. Lebanon, 5-0. Fox Chapel was scheduled to face Shady Side Academy in the third-place match with a trip to the PIAA playoffs on the line.
Fox Chapel finished second to Shady Side Academy in the section race during the regular season.
Middle school XC excels
What was already a good season became an even better one for Fox Chapel. The Foxes’ girls middle school team wrapped up an undefeated record with a win at the North Allegheny Invitational.
Girls golf takes 2nd
Fox Chapel didn’t earn a spot at states by finishing as runner-up, but the Foxes put a nice cap on their season by placing second at the WPIAL Class 3A team golf championships. Peters Township turned in a collective score of 317 to win the event.
Fox Chapel shot a 353 at the Cedarbrook Red Golf Course. The Foxes finished 13 strokes ahead of third-place North Allegheny.
Gabby Devita led Fox Chapel by shooting a 15-over par 86. Clara Koteski (87), Ava Calandra (89), Baustin Blair (91) and Morgan Monteven (92) rounded out the top five for the Foxes.
