Penn State was the first of nearly two dozen schools to offer Fort Cherry’s Matt Sieg a scholarship, but ultimately the Nittany Lions’ offer was all he needed.
Sieg, one of the WPIAL’s top recruits, announced his commitment Saturday.
The 6-foot, 180-pound junior plays quarterback and defensive back for the defending WPIAL Class A champion. Rivals.com has ranked him as a four-star prospect and the 13th-best safety recruit nationally.
Sieg had close to two dozen FBS offers including Pitt, West Virginia, Michigan State, and Southern Cal, among others. He was the state’s fifth-best recruit in the 2026 class, according to Rivals.
Penn State offered him a scholarship in September 2023.
Sieg is a dual-threat quarterback for Fort Cherry (11-0), which earned the No. 1 seed in this year’s WPIAL playoffs. He has rushed for 1,155 yards and 20 touchdowns and passed for 871 yards and 16 TDs, despite being limited by an early-season thumb injury.
The Rangers defeated No. 16 Brentwood, 56-14, on Friday. They face No. 9 Cornell in a WPIAL quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Friday at West Allegheny.
A multi-sport athlete, Sieg competes in football, basketball, baseball and track. In the spring, Sieg earned all-state honors in baseball and his 400-meter relay team won gold at the state track meet.
