High school roundup for Dec. 13, 2024: Mars rains down 19 3-pointers in win over Blackhawk

Drew Navetta hit eight 3-pointers and finished with 26 points and Austin Wroblewski added 20 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Mars to an 83-53 win over Blackhawk in Section 4-5A boys basketball Friday night.
The Fightin’ Planets (3-3, 1-0) hit 19 3-pointers in the game. Justin Shanor scored 14 and Carter Davis had 10 for Blackhawk (2-3, 0-1).
Aliquippa 93, Beaver Falls 14 – Joshua Pratt scored 20 points, Qa’lil Goode and Antonio Reddic had 15 points apiece and Jeremiah Pratt added 11 for Aliquippa (1-0, 1-0) in a Section 1-3A win over Beaver Falls (0-7, 0-1).
Aquinas Academy 94, Waynesburg 67 – Jake Guillen led Aquinas Academy (5-1) with 29 points, Sam Duer followed with 28 and David Zaharko added 12 in a nonsection win. Cole Headlee scored 22 points and Dane Woods had 14 for Waynesburg (0-5).
Baldwin 72, Brashear 31 – Nathan Wesling scored 18 points to lead four players in double figures for Baldwin (5-0) in a nonsection win. Max Marzina had 12, Matthew Schenk 11 and Jackson Sgattoni 10 for the Highlanders. Kesean Jones led Brashear (1-6) with 11.
Beaver 60, Northgate 50 – Brady Mayo led the way with 30 points and Logan Weiland added 13 for Beaver (6-0) in a nonsection win. Des Williams scored 15 points and Ty Daniels and Ron McKinley had 10 points apiece for Northgate (1-3).
Belle Vernon 92, West Mifflin 82 – Zion Moore hit for 40 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead Belle Vernon (4-2, 1-0) to a Section 3-4A win. Curtis Wade added 14, Tommy Davis 13 and Dominic Ghilani 10 for the Leopards. Daven Reynolds scored 34 and Jose Perez added 24 for West Mifflin (0-7, 0-1). Julian Dewberry had 11.
Beth-Center 55, Mapletown 19 – Jason Zellie scored 15 points to lead Beth-Center (3-2, 1-0) to a Section 3-2A win over Mapletown (0-4, 0-1).
Burrell 44, Highlands 32 – Tucker Bitar and Gavyn Orr scored 11 points apiece to lead Burrell (3-2, 1-0) to a Section 1-4A win. Troy Bielak scored 18 points for Highlands (1-4, 0-1).
Carlynton 82, Avella 45 – Mark Jameson scored 21 points, Damien Holloway had 17 and Mike Jenkins added 14 to lead Carlynton (3-2) to a nonsection win over Avella (3-3).
Central Valley 73, Bishop Canevin 45 – Gabriel Raso led Central Valley (5-0) with 18 points, Isaiah Jeter followed with 16 and Ryan Conti added 10 in a nonsection win. Drew Allen scored 23 points for Bishop Canevin (1-5).
Chartiers-Houston 49, Fort Cherry 43 – Jake Perchinsky scored 12 points and Nate Gregory and Aaron Walsh added 10 points apiece to lead Chartiers-Houston (4-1, 1-0) to a Section 3-2A win. Gavin Grace scored 16 points and Shane Cornali had 14 for Fort Cherry (1-3, 0-1).
Chartiers Valley 73, West Allegheny 41 – Jayden Davis and Logan Helfrick scored 14 points apiece and Julian Semplice had 12 for Chartiers Valley (6-0, 1-0) in a Section 4-5A win. Donovan O’Connor scored 17 points and Josiah Johnson had 15 for West Allegheny (2-4, 0-1).
Clairton 78, Springdale 59 – Brandon Murphy scored 27 points to power Clairton (1-2, 1-0) to a Section 1-2A win. Jajuan Bailey added 14 and Taris Wooding had 13 for the Bears. Liam Dexter led Springdale (4-1, 0-1) with 12 points.
Derry 62, East Allegheny 39 – John Wasnick led Derry (4-2, 1-0) with 28 points in a Section 3-4A win. Jayden Patterson scored 10 points for East Allegheny (2-3, 0-1).
Ellwood City 61, Freedom 36 – Aaron Lake scored 27 points, Chris Smiley had 13 and Maykel Cuevas added 12 for Ellwood City (3-3, 1-0) in a 1-3A win. Will Kumrow scored 10 points for Freedom (0-4, 0-1).
Fox Chapel 52, Seneca Valley 41 – Asher White and Caden Kaiser scored 14 points apiece to lead Fox Chapel (4-1, 1-0) to a Section 1-6A win. Tyler Pepin scored 26 points for Seneca Valley (1-6, 0-1).
Greensburg Central Catholic 91, Frazier 44 – Brandon Martin scored 17 points to lead four players in double figures for Greensburg Central Catholic (5-0, 1-0) to a Section 1-2A victory. Liam Gallagher added 15 and Maddox Mignogna and AJ Tarpley each had 14 for the Centurions. Conlan Higbee led Frazier (2-4, 0-1) with 14 points. Dalian McManus and Brant Alekson each had 10.
Greensburg Salem 67, Yough 36 – Tyler Martin scored 16 points and Ty Harcom and Braedon Leatherman each added 12 as Greensburg Salem (1-3, 1-0) picked up a Section 3-4A win to give Paul Sapotichne his 400th victory as coach of the Golden Lions. Jackson Pore led Yough (1-5, 0-1) with 15 points.
Jeannette 76, California 43 – Jayce Powell scored 22 points, Noah Sunder had 12 and Stone Markham added 11 to lead Jeannette (4-0, 1-0) to a Section 1-2A win. Vinny Manzella scored 15 points and Jacob Ziolecki had 14 for California (1-3, 0-1).
Jefferson-Morgan 66, Burgettstown 44 – Houston Guesman scored 19 points and Jase Bedilion added 16 to lead Jefferson-Morgan (3-2, 1-0) to a Section 3-2A win. Colton County scored 15 points and Parker Rommes had 11 for Burgettstown (1-3, 0-1).
Keystone Oaks 67, Seton LaSalle 58 – Erond Jakupi led Keystone Oaks (6-0) with 23 points, Tulio Watts followed with 18 and Joseph Colton added 11 in a nonsection win. Keenu Brooks scored 18 points and Patrick Weldon had 13 for Seton LaSalle (1-4).
Kiski Area 68, Shady Side Academy 38 – Jacob Musselman and Colin Keller each scored 13 points and Amaree Gonzalez chipped in 10 to power Kiski Area (2-3) to a nonsection win. Cam Mallory led Shady Side Academy (2-3) with 15 points.
Leechburg 51, Propel Braddock Hills 47 – Rocco Vigna scored 19 points and Leechburg (2-1, 1-0) rallied from six points down after three quarters for a Section 2-2A win. Chase Henry added 14 and Brady Rollinger 12 for the Blue Devils. Malik Jetter and Braylon Davis-Clay each scored 16 for Propel Braddock Hills (0-6, 0-1).
Ligonier Valley 72, Geibel 57 – Parker Hollick led with 20 points, Michael Wisniewski followed with 19 and Michael Vargulish-Graver added 13 for Ligonier Valley (3-2) in a nonsection win. Evan Strimel scored 20 and Seth Dolan added 12 for Geibel (3-2).
McKeesport 63, Laurel Highlands 58 – Brian Jones scored 22 points and Darryl McCullough added 13 to lead McKeesport (2-4, 1-0) to a comeback win in Section 1-5A after trailing by 10 at halftime. Antwan Black led Laurel Highlands (2-3, 0-1) with 26 points. Luke Martin had 12 and Aiden Black had 10.
Mohawk 61, Riverside 42 – Bobby Fadden led with 19 points, Joey Nail followed with 13 and Vinny Pezzuolo added 11 for Mohawk (3-2, 1-0) in a Section 1-3A win. Will Sullivan scored 11 points for Riverside (5-1, 0-1).
Monessen 61, Charleroi 38 – Torrence Taylor scored 17 points and Rodney Johnson added 14 to help Monessen (2-1) to a nonsection win. Brock Henderson led Charleroi (3-3) with 20 points.
Mt. Lebanon 58, Hempfield 38 – Sam Deibert scored 24 points and Carter Gould hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points to lead Mt. Lebanon (3-1, 1-0) to a Section 2-6A victory. Drew Gordon scored 13 and Daniel Husenits had 10 for Hempfield (3-2, 0-1).
Nazareth Prep 85, Environmental Charter 37 – Leon Harrison and Will Evans scored 20 points apiece and Micah Caldwell added 13 to lead Nazareth Prep (3-2) to a nonsection win. Elijah McBride scored 13 points for Environmental Charter (0-3).
Neshannock 49, OLSH 42 – Tony Perrotta and Matthew Sopko each scored 12 points and Neshannock (3-0, 1-0) took control with a 15-5 advantage in the second quarter in a Section 4-2A win. Jake Johnson scored 17 and Tiernan McCullough had 10 for OLSH (4-1, 0-1).
New Castle 70, North Hills 59 – Ralphie Blundo led New Castle (5-0, 1-0) with 24 points, Kai Cox followed with 16 and Kyrell Harris added 12 in a Section 1-6A win. Nathan Schanbacher scored 26 points and Zach Pollaro had 24 for North Hills (1-3, 0-1).
North Allegheny 66, Butler 56 – Carter Melzer scored 24 points to lead North Allegheny (4-1, 1-0) to a Section 1-6A win. Kyle Casteel led Butler (5-1, 0-1) with 18 points. Tayt Lucas added 13 and Andrew Gettinger had 11 for the Golden Tornado.
Norwin 64, Connellsville 47 – Stefano Giannikas scored 18 points to power Norwin (3-2, 1-1) to a Section 2-6A win. Nathan Kuch added 12 and Mario Csukas and Alex Graney each had 11 for the Knights. Rocco Farrell led Connellsville (2-3, 0-1) with 22 points.
Penn Hills 54, Indiana 46 – Amon Hawthorne led with 20 points and Calix Clark added 18 for Penn Hills (1-3, 1-0) in a Section 2-5A win. Aaron Webb scored 17 points and Darius Webb had 14 for Indiana (2-3, 0-1).
Peters Township 63, Thomas Jefferson 42 – Dylan Donovan scored 21 points and Jayden Greco added 10 to lead Peters Township (5-0, 1-0) to a Section 3-5A win. Brady Kraus scored 13 points and Nicholas Trklja had 11 for Thomas Jefferson (3-3, 0-1).
Pine-Richland 65, Woodland Hills 58 – Eli Catalano scored 15 points, Emery Moye had 13 and Grant Spacciapolli added 11 to lead Pine-Richland (2-1, 1-0) to a Section 1-6A win. Scoop Smith scored 15 points and Donshae Mosley had 11 for Woodland Hills (3-2, 0-1).
Plum 74, Hampton 49 – Max Grice scored 27 points and Will Beckner added 16 to lead Plum (2-2, 1-0) to a Section 2-5A win. Griffin Jarrell scored 16 points and Ray Kirsopp had 10 for Hampton (2-3, 0-1).
Quaker Valley 62, Carrick 49 – Zach Washington scored 23 points to help Quaker Valley (4-1) to a nonsection win over Carrick (2-3). Sam Chapman added 14 and Nic Cohen had 11 for the Quakers.
Riverview 57, Bentworth 47 – Alex Schultheis scored 23 points and Ben Franciscus added 12 to lead Riverview (3-4, 1-0) to a Section 1-2A win. Ben Hays scored 21 points and Chris Harper had 10 for Bentworth (2-3, 0-1).
Rochester 63, Western Beaver 55 – Jayvin Hemer led with 19 points, Nate Bills followed with 13 and Bobby George added 10 for Rochester (3-3, 1-0) in a Section 4-2A win. Jackson Liller scored 23 points and Nate Schwarz had 17 for Western Beaver (1-4, 0-1).
Sewickley Academy 58, Eden Christian 33 – Lucas Grimsley scored 14 points and Justin Prunzik had 13 for Sewickley Academy (3-1, 1-0) in a Section 2-2A win over Eden Christian (1-4, 0-1).
Shenango 55, South Side 51 – Joe Campoli scored 18 points, Taegan Russo had 13 and Brayden George added 12 to push Shenango (2-3, 1-0) past South Side (3-3, 0-1) in a Section 4-2A win. Carter Wilson scored 21 points and Andrew Corfield had 17 for the Rams.
Slippery Rock 70, Perry Traditional Academy 31 – Led by 16 points from Max Kovacik, 15 from Josh Book and 10 from Doug Popovec, Slippery Rock picked up a nonsection win. Landen Boykin led Perry (0-5) with 16 points.
South Allegheny 74, Washington 35 – Drew Cook scored 22 points and Cam Epps had 21 to lead South Allegheny (5-1) to a nonsection win over Washington (2-3). Josh Jackowski added 13 for the Gladiators. Cook and Epps each hit four 3-pointers.
Trinity 61, Bethel Park 57 (OT) – Jacob Dunkle scored 22 points and Jonah Williamson added 15 to push Trinity (4-1, 1-0) to a Section 3-5A win. Jude Hamel scored 16 points for Bethel Park (1-4, 0-1).
Uniontown 74, Albert Gallatin 49 – Calvin Winfrey hit for 30 points to lead Uniontown (4-1, 2-0) to a Section 1-5A win. Notorious Grooms added 16 and Kelan Milsom had 11. For Albert Gallatin (4-2, 0-1), Shymere Wilson scored 19 and JJ Jackson chipped in 11.
Upper St. Clair 46, Central Catholic 31 – Tyler Robbins and Jake Foster scored 16 points apiece to lead Upper St. Clair (5-0, 2-0) to a Section 2-6A win. Enzo Khalil scored nine points for Central Catholic (1-2, 0-1).
Winchester Thurston 78, Brentwood 63 – Matt Southers led Winchester Thurston (3-1, 1-0) with 23 points, Anthony Pipkin followed with 21 and Mike Hammerling added 19 in a Section 2-2A win. Colton Rosing and Forrest Betz scored 20 points apiece for Brentwood (1-4, 0-1).

Carrick 40, Bentworth 27 – Jocelyn Fisher and Journey Barron each scored 12 points to lead Carrick (2-4) to a nonsection win. Aubrie Logan had 13 for Bentworth (2-3).
Connellsville 49, Burrell 41 – Maggie Orndorff scored 13 points and Elizabeth Painter added 11 to lead Connellsville (2-5) to a nonsection win. Jules Fisher scored 22 points for Burrell (5-1).

Indiana 39, McKeesport 20 – Laken Kugler and Scarlett Stossel scored nine points apiece to lead Indiana (5-1, 1-0) to a Section 2-5A win. Emily Eisenberg and Adriana Allison scored six points apiece for McKeesport (1-5, 0-1).
McGuffey 57, Southmoreland 24 – Taylor Schumacher scored 25 points and Lexi Ewig added 11 points, 11 steals and nine assists to lead McGuffey (4-1) past Southmoreland (2-5) in a nonsection win.
