High school roundup for Dec. 20, 2024: Chartiers Valley tops Moon in early section showdown

Jayden Davis hit for 25 points to lead Chartiers Valley to a 60-44 victory over Moon in a Section 4-5A boys basketball showdown Friday night.
Luca Federico contributed 12 points for the Colts (7-1, 2-1). Michael Santicola scored 13 points and Amir Turner had 12 for the Tigers (4-2, 1-1).
Albert Gallatin 63, McKeesport 50 – Jason Jackson scored 24 points and Shymere Wilson added 15 to lead Albert Gallatin (6-2, 2-1) to a Section 1-5A win. Lamont Perkins scored 22 points and Brian Jones had 15 for McKeesport (3-5, 2-1).
Aquinas Academy 92, Summit Academy 73 – Sam Duer scored 33 points and Jake Guillen followed with 27 to lead Aquinas Academy (6-1, 1-0) to a Section 1-A win. David Zaharko chipped in 10 points. Robert Young scored 23, Demetrius Crosby added 21 and Shemar Glover had 14 for Summit Academy (1-4, 0-1).
Baldwin 56, Trinity 45 – Nate Wesling scored 16 points and Evan Golvash added 12 to lead Baldwin (7-0, 2-0) to a Section 3-5A win. Anthony Giorgi scored 14 points and Jonah Williamson had 12 for Trinity (4-3, 1-2).
Beth-Center 71, Fort Cherry 58 – Jason Zellie scored 19 points, Brayden Hull had 14 and Tyler Kurowski added 11 to lead Beth-Center (4-3) to a nonsection win. Shane Cornali scored 21 points and Gavin Grace had 13 for Fort Cherry (2-4).
Brentwood 72, Propel Braddock Hills 58 – Colton Rosing (28) and Forrest Betz (20) combined for 48 points to power Brentwood (2-5, 1-2) to a Section 2-2A victory. Propel Braddock Hills (1-8, 0-3) was led by Braylon Davis-Clay with 19 points, Malik Jetter with 17 and Jarell Santiago with 12.
Central Catholic 52, Hempfield 39 – Calvin Vento scored 22 points and Enzo Khalil added 11 to lead Central Catholic (3-3, 2-1) to a Section 2-6A win. Danny Husenits scored 12 points for Hempfield (4-3, 1-2).
Central Valley 54, Beaver 49 – Isaiah Jeter scored 16 points and Cameron DeVincentis chipped in 10 for Central Valley (7-0, 1-0) in Section 2-4A. Brady Mayo scored 23 points and Junior Marino had 13 for Beaver (7-1, 0-1).
Clairton 78, Frazier 45 – Michael Ruffin and Taris Wooding scored 22 points each for Clairton (2-3, 2-1) in a Section 1-2A victory. Kolby Stewart scored 19 for Frazier (2-6, 0-3).
Elizabeth Forward 63, Greensburg Salem 44 – Cy Herchelroath scored 21 points and James Gile finished with 14 to lead Elizabeth Forward (6-2, 2-0) to a Section 3-4A win. Tyler Martin led Greensburg Salem (1-5, 1-2) with 23 points.
Ellwood City 68, New Brighton 54 – Jackson Kerr led with 19 points and Chris Smiley and Maykel Cuevas followed with 13 points apiece for Ellwood City (5-3, 2-0) in a Section 1-3A win. Isaac Kohlmeyer scored 14 points for New Brighton (1-5, 0-2). Kaleb Servick and Aaron Lake also scored 10 points apiece for the Wolverines.
Fox Chapel 66, Woodland Hills 62 – Caden Kaiser scored 21 points and Asher White added 11 to push Fox Chapel (6-1, 3-0) to a Section 1-6A win. Donshea Mosley scored 22 points and Scoop Smith had 15 for Woodland Hills (3-4, 0-3).
Gateway 41, Franklin Regional 32 – Mykel Bruce-McCrommon had a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Gateway (3-3, 2-1) in Section 1-5A. Connor Crossey scored 10 for Franklin Regional (3-5, 0-3).
Greensburg Central Catholic 96, California 37 – Liam Gallagher led Greensburg Central Catholic (7-0, 3-0) with 22 points, Brady O’Rouke followed with 16, David Wachinski had 13 and AJ Tarpley added 11 in a Section 1-2A win. Vinny Manzella scored 11 points for California (1-6, 0-3).
Hampton 50, Kiski Area 44 – Jonas Cupps scored 11 points, including three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, to lead Hampton (3-4, 1-2) to a Section 2-5A win in a game tied after three quarters. Jacob Musselman scored 13 and Colin Keller added 12 for Kiski Area (3-4, 1-1).
Jefferson-Morgan 75, Mapletown 29 – Houston Guesman scored 23 points, John Woodward added 13 and Dayten Marion had 10 for Jefferson-Morgan (5-2, 3-0) in a Section 3-2A win. Tyler Howard had 14 points and Cooper Franks chipped in 10 for Mapletown (0-6, 0-3).
Keystone Oaks 77, Sto-Rox 66 – Joseph Colton led with 20 points, Bruno Onate followed with 13 and Tulio Watts and Carmen Pellarin added 12 points apiece for Keystone Oaks (8-0, 1-0) in a Section 2-3A win. Javon Nelson scored 16 points and Marcus Thomas had 15 for Sto-Rox (1-4, 0-1).
Knoch 74, Highlands 36 – Jackson Bauman led with 19 points and Teegan Finucan added 15 for Knoch (7-1, 3-0) in a Section 1-4A win over Highlands (1-5, 0-2).

Mars 62, West Allegheny 51 – Austen Wroblewski led Mars (4-3, 2-0) with 22 points, Drew Navetta followed with 15 and Ben Detisch added 11 in a Section 4-5A win. Anthony Lanni scored 11 points and Tyler Blatz had 10 for West Allegheny (3-5, 1-2).
McNicholas (Ohio) 62, North Catholic 56 – Grant Waters scored 17 points to lead McNicholas (Ohio) at the Queen City Hoop Fest in Cincinnati. Jason Fredericks scored 20, Owen Maddalon 17 and Jude Rottmann 16 for North Catholic (2-4).
Montour 82, Blackhawk 42 – Colton Straight made eight 3-pointers and finished with 32 points and Ama Tening Sow followed with 16 points for Montour (5-0, 2-0) in a Section 4-5A win. Justin Shanor and Logan Gabauer scored 11 points apiece for Blackhawk (2-6, 0-3).
Neighborhood Academy 72, Monessen 46 – Courtney Wallace had a triple-double with 25 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists to send Neighborhood Academy (7-0, 1-0) to a Section 2-A win. Kedron Gilmore and Dante Wright each added 11 for Neighborhood. Dennis Hawkins scored 14 and Rodney Johnson added 11 for Monessen (3-2, 0-1).
Neshannock 71, Rochester 39 – David Kwiat hit for 29 points to power Neshannock (6-0, 3-0) to a Section 4-2A win. Logan Lyons scored 15 and Nate Bills had 12 for Rochester (3-5, 1-2).
New Castle 62, Butler 60 – Damian Harrison hit the game-winning bucket at the buzzer to lead New Castle (7-0, 3-0) to a Section 1-6A win. Kai Cox led the Red Hurricane with 20 points, Ralphie Blundo had 18, Harrison added 12 and Kyrell Harris chipped in 10. For Butler (5-3, 0-3), Andrew Gettinger and Stainton Forbes scored 17, Ayden Andrews 13 and Tayt Lucas 12.
OLSH 78, Union 53 – Jake Johnson scored 16 points, Austin Avsec and Tiernan McCullough added 15 points apiece and Lucca Grisafi had 13 to lead OLSH (6-1, 2-1) to a Section 4-2A win. Lucas Stanley scored 25 points for Union (7-2, 2-1).
Penn Hills 65, Armstrong 32 – Calix Clark scored 11 points for Penn Hills (3-3, 3-0) in a Section 2-5A win. Jacob Szep scored 15 points for Armstrong (3-5, 0-3).
Pine-Richland 61, North Allegheny 56 – Emery Moye scored 18 points, Eli Catalano had 14 and Grant Spacciapolli added 12 to lead Pine-Richland (3-3, 2-1) to a Section 1-6A win. Carter Melzer scored 26 points and John Jubec had 15 for North Allegheny (4-3, 1-2).
Riverside 55, Beaver Falls 51 – Logan Young led with 16 points, Drake Fox followed with 14 and Will Sullivan added 11 for Riverside (6-3, 1-2) in a Section 1-3A win. Braylon Pitts scored 21 points and Dajuan Flenory had 18 for Beaver Falls (0-8, 0-2).
Seneca Valley 63, North Hills 55 – Owen Congdon led with 18 points, Tyler Pepin and Andrew Omasits followed with 13 points apiece and Nico Santapau added 10 for Seneca Valley (3-6, 2-1) in a Section 1-6A win. Zach Pollaro scored 25 points and Nathan Schanbacher had 19 for North Hills (2-5, 1-2).
Shenango 61, Laurel 21 – Joey Campoli and Brayden George scored 15 points apiece and Taegan Russo added 11 to lead Shenango (3-4, 2-1) to a Section 4-2A win over Laurel (4-4, 0-2).
South Allegheny 65, Shady Side Academy 43 – Drew Cook scored 23 points, Cam Epps had 15 and Josh Jackowski added 14 to lead South Allegheny (7-1, 1-0) past Shady Side Academy (2-6, 0-1) in a Section 3-3A win.
South Fayette 71, Thomas Jefferson 61 – Tyson Wright and Gavin Orosz scored 17 points apiece, Stefano Vezio followed with 14 and Dylan Head added 10 to lead South Fayette (6-0, 3-0) to a Section 3-5A win. Justin Fry scored 19 points and Noah Kaszer had 17 for Thomas Jefferson (5-4, 1-2).
Southmoreland 52, Charleroi 45 – Noah Felentzer scored 22 points and Stanley Chapman added 10 to lead Southmoreland (4-2, 1-0) to a Section 4-3A win. Jackson Keranko had 12 and Shea Smith contributed 10 for Charleroi (4-4, 0-1).
South Park 57, Seton LaSalle 50 – Luke Scarff scored 31 points and Cooper Hochendoner added 12 to lead South Park (6-1, 1-0) to a Section 3-3A win. Noah Sear scored 24 points for Seton LaSalle (2-5, 0-1).
Springdale 63, Bentworth 41 – Liam Dexter scored 16 points to lead Springdale (6-1, 2-1) to a Section 1-2A victory. John Duku and Jackson Muller each added 12 points for the Dynamos. Christopher Harper scored 21 for Bentworth (2-5, 0-3).
St. Joseph 58, Environmental Charter 38 – Gabe Maltese scored 19 points to lead St. Joseph (4-3, 1-0) to a Section 2-A win over Environmental Charter. Ben Bartolovic added 15 and Ryan McCarthy had 14 for the Spartans.
St. Peter’s (NY) 63, Allderdice 55 – Saliou Diokhane scored 24 points to lead host St. Peter’s (NY) in a nonsection win. Lukas Stead scored 21 points, Markus Kuhn had 14 and Trey Schachter added 12 for Allderdice (2-5).
Uniontown 74, McGuffey 35 – Notorious Grooms scored 24 points to lead four players in double figures for Uniontown (8-1) at the KSA Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla. Isaac Ellsworth added 18, Calvin Winfrey 16 and Kelan Milsom 10. Ayden Cunninghame led McGuffey (6-2) with 16 points.
Waynesburg 69, Brownsville 41 – Dane Woods led with 26 points, Alex Eck had 13 and Alex VanSickle added 10 for Waynesburg (1-7, 1-0) in a Section 4-3A win. Cameron Phillips scored 13 points for Brownsville (1-7, 0-1).
West Greene 52, Chartiers-Houston 51 – Lane Allison hit a 75-foot desperation buzzer-beater and finished with 29 points to lead West Greene (5-2, 3-0) to a dramatic Section 3-2A win. Justus Buckingham scored 18 points and Aaron Walsh had 13 for Chartiers-Houston (5-2, 2-1).

West Mifflin 56, Yough 34 – Daven Reynolds had 20 points and Jerome Corbett had 12 in a Section 3-4A win for West Mifflin (2-7, 1-1). Ryan Westerman led Yough (1-7, 0-3) with 12 points.

Bentworth 36, Mapletown 23 – Kayla O’Dell scored 15 points to lead Bentworth (4-4) to a nonsection win. Nicole Barerra scored 12 points for Mapletown (2-7).
Chartiers Valley 35, Moon 33 – Rachel Boehm scored 13 points to lead Chartiers Valley (6-2, 3-0) in a Section 3-5A win. Maria Depner scored 15 points and Jaedin Griggs had 10 for Moon (3-3, 1-1).
Latrobe 71, McKeesport 13 – Carley Berk scored 27 points and Emmy Bridge chipped in 10 to lead Latrobe (5-3, 2-1) past McKeesport (1-7, 0-3) in Section 2-5A. Twelve players scored for the Wildcats, who hit 11 3-pointers as a team.
Penn Hills 44, Armstrong 38 – Milani Oliver scored 17 points, Malaya Middleton had 12 and Cara Crawford added 11 to lead Penn Hills (1-5, 1-2) to a Section 1-5A win. Marlo Mellish scored 17 points and Avery Hogan had 10 for Armstrong (1-5, 0-3).
Shaler 60, Plum 41 – Jorja Bernesser scored 22 points to lead Shaler (7-1, 2-0) to a Section 1-5A win. Reese Smetanka added 17 and Bayleigh Perez had 13 for the Titans. Serena Carnahan scored 14 and Tamia West added 11 for Plum (2-5, 1-2).

Wrestling
North Allegheny 40, Penn-Trafford 29 – Mason Hartung (215) and Bradyn McConneha (285) recorded pins at the final two weights to lead North Allegheny (11-2) to a nonsection win. Brody Barnhart (160) also had a pin and Gus Stedeford (133) and Griffen Reid (152) won by tech fall for the Tigers. For Penn-Trafford (4-3), Logan Matrisch (172) recorded a pin, Luke DeSantis (127) won by tech fall and Dylan Barrett (121), Jake Lang (139) and Sidney Hand (145) earned major decisions.
Seneca Valley 41, Mt. Lebanon 31 – Seneca Valley (5-4) used four pins and a tech fall to beat Mt. Lebanon (2-6) in a nonsection match. Cooper Beres (189), Landon Davis (215), Bryce Berekstazi (114) and Christian Droz (121) had pins and Zach Hill (145) won by tech fall for the Raiders. Ben Lloyd (285) and Ben Carlins (127) had pins, Ben Mares (152) and Colin McConnell (160) won by tech fall and Devin McCauley (172) won in overtime for the Blue Devils.
