High school roundup for Dec. 23, 2024: North Catholic boys rally past Seton LaSalle

Jason Fredericks scored 34 points, including 17 in the fourth quarter, to lead North Catholic to a 70-61 comeback victory over Seton LaSalle at the Bishop Canevin holiday tournament Monday.
Jude Rottmann added 11 for the Trojans (4-4), who trailed by as many as 10 points. Keenu Brooks and Patrick Weldon each scored 13 for Seton LaSalle (2-6).
Avella 47, Hillel Academy 16 – Brayden Fuller scored 13 points and Rylan Bell added 10 to help Avella (4-3) to a nonsection win. Coby Shaw led Hillel Academy (1-1) with six points.
Avonworth 84, North Hills 73 – Rowan Carmichael went off for 46 points to lead Avonworth (5-1) to a nonsection win over North Hills (2-6).
Central Catholic 68, Penn Hills 44 – Enzo Khalil scored 22 points and Jaydan Brown added 12 to lead Central Catholic (4-3) to a nonsection win. Calix Clark led Penn Hills (3-4) with 15 points.
Charleroi 62, Yough 40 – Shea Smith scored 20 points and Noah Pletcher followed with 11 to lead Charleroi (5-4) to a nonsection win. Jaiden Dixon-Brentzel scored 15 and Ryan Westerman chipped in 10 for Yough (1-9).
Laurel Highlands 56, Connellsville 41 – Luke Martin scored 21 points to help Laurel Highlands (2-6) to a nonsection win. Antwan Black added 13 and Tyrone Burton had 10 for the Mustangs. Rocco Farrell led Connellsville (2-6) with 11 points.
Mohawk 74, Blackhawk 48 – Led by 21 points from Bobby Fadden, 20 from Drew Wrona and 17 from Joey Nail, Mohawk (5-2) picked up a nonsection win. Tyler Heckathorn scored 22 points and Carter Davis had 12 for Blackhawk (2-7).
Plum 59, Deer Lakes 51 – Max Grice scored 23 points to lead Plum to a 59-51 victory over Deer Lakes in nonsection boys basketball Monday night. Owen Proskin added 11 points and Will Beckner had 10 for the Mustangs (4-3). Nate Moore scored 22 points and Collin Rodgers added 13 for the Lancers (7-2).
Girls basketball
Beaver 67, Mohawk 26 – Annsley Baker hit for 25 points and Emerson Connelly added 15 to power Beaver (5-2) to a nonsection win. Delani Harman led Mohawk (2-4) with seven points.
Butler 42, Latrobe 39 – Amelia McMichael scored 18 points to lead Butler (6-2) to a nonsection win. Carley Berk led all scorers with 20 points for Latrobe (5-4).
OLSH 52, Quaker Valley 44 – Claudia Ierullo scored 23 points and Leah Parker followed with 12 to boost OLSH (7-0, 3-0) to a Section 1-3A win. Mimi Thiero led Quaker Valley (3-5, 1-2) with 30 points.
Peters Township 62, Trinity Catholic 48 – Led by 22 points from Natalie Wetzel, 16 from Taylor McCullough and 12 from Bri Morreale, Peters Township (8-1) picked up a win at the Tampa Bay Invitational.
South Park 51, Seton LaSalle 50 – Bella Stromberg scored 17 points and Nika Contakos added 12 on four 3-pointers to lead South Park (5-1) to a comeback win in nonsection action. Addy Kerr had 10 points for the Eagles, who trailed 12-4 after the first quarter. Addie Lonergan scored 16 and Tiara Curry had 14 for Seton LaSalle (6-2).
Yough 55, Charleroi 23 – Hailey Bock and Evelyn Gates scored 17 points apiece to power Yough (7-3) to a nonsection victory. Eden Smith led Charleroi (0-10) with 10 points.

Bishop Canevin 7, Sewickley Academy 0 – Jack Misterka had two goals and an assist, Brian Kalanish also scored twice and Dom Ventura and Jayden Martincic each had a goal and an assist to lead Bishop Canevin (6-5) past Sewickley Academy (0-11-1) in Division 2.
Burrell 11, Gateway 2 – Luke Mink delivered four goals and two assists to lead Burrell (10-2-1) to a Division 2 victory. Julian Kemp had two goals and an assist and Mike Morazcyzk added a goal and an assist. CJ Evans and Parker Williams scored for Gateway (4-7-1).
Knoch 7, Wilmington 1 – Synjun McHattie had two goals and two assists and Cam Chritie also scored twice to lead Knoch (6-3-2) to a Division 2 win. Evan Moody and Nick Olshanski each had a goal and an assist. Alex Rodgers scored for Wilmington (1-9).
Latrobe 7, Fox Chapel 5 – Cam Mikulsky had two goals and two assists and Latrobe scored three goals in the final six minutes of the game to lead Latrobe (9-2) to a Class 2A win. Dylan Morris scored twice, Joey Crimboli had a goal and two assists and Adam Pellis added a goal and an assist. Hayden Ferra had two goals and three assists and Dominic Casile collected two goals and two assists for Fox Chapel (7-2-1).
Meadville 11, Greensburg Salem 3 – Robert Mahoney racked up three goals and three assists and Graham Shellhaas and Evan Peterson each scored twice to lead Meadville (5-7) to a Class A win. Jake Fink had two goals for Greensburg Salem (4-7).
Moon 4, Avonworth 1 – Landon Watson scored twice, Eric Hartman had a goal and two assists, David Gallup also scored and Tyler Zeigler made 43 saves to lead Moon (12-2-1) to a Class A win. Austin Dzadovsky scored for Avonworth (9-3).
North Catholic 2, Butler 1 – Anthony Neely had a goal and an assist, Beckett Dunn also scored and Darren Riley made 29 saves to lead North Catholic (10-3) to a Class A win. Aden Devore scored for Butler (2-7-3).
Penn-Trafford 7, Norwin 1 – Cam Kiste and Aiden Drotos each collected a goal and two assists to lead Penn-Trafford (10-2-1) to a Class 2A win. Ben Zierski, Brock Bienemann and TJ Ferguson added a goal and an assist apiece and Robert Thatcher had three assists. Zayn Zeravica scored for Norwin (0-10-1).
Shaler 6, Kiski 2 – Blake Whiteman had a six-point night with two goals and four assists to lead Shaler (10-3) to a Class A win. Thomas Sommer and Chase Irwin each had a goal and an assist. Jacob Kraus recorded a goal and an assist for Kiski (0-12-1).
Thomas Jefferson 5, Peters Township 2 – Liam Mahoney had two goals and Carter Merrell, Brian Spencer and Garrett Fetzko also scored to lead Thomas Jefferson (6-8) to a Class 3A win. Cole Neupaver and Nicholas Caputo scored for Peters Township (3-7-1).
Trinity 5, Neshannock 4 (SO) – Kory Taylor scored a hat trick, Jensen Phillips added a goal and Destin Porter dished out two assists to lead Trinity (3-9-1) to a shootout win in Division 2. Marko Relic scored the tying goal with 1:01 left and Grant Hennon and Sam Mezzanotte each had a goal and two assists for Neshannock (7-3-2).
West Allegheny 8, North Hills 3 – John Wineland and Branden Switalski had five-point nights to lead West Allegheny (5-6) to a Class A win. Wineland had three goals and two assists and Switalski collected a goal and four assists. Jonathan Trosky scored twice for North Hills (6-6).
