The WPIAL’s leading goal scorer during the girls soccer regular season still has next season to defend her title.

But Morgan Gesinski won’t be distracted by the recruiting game. She has her college decision out of the way.

The junior forward from Mt. Pleasant announced this week she will play at Mercyhurst, a former NCAA Division II program that is now competing at the Division I level.

Gesinski, who had 36 goals in the fall as Mt. Pleasant earned the No. 1 seed in the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs, said she talked to other schools at various levels but was sold on the Lakers.

“After visiting the campus several times and watching a few games, I really liked the campus and university and soccer program,” she said. “I have been in some conversation with some other schools, but Mercyhurst was the most interested in me.”

Gesinski, an impact player since she was a freshman, has 97 career goals going into her senior season.

She was an all-state and all-WPIAL player, and also was a finalist for the Moe Rosensteel Award, which recognizes the top player in the WPIAL.
