Seeds for the 71st Westmoreland County Coaches’ Association wrestling tournament were announced Thursday, but the biggest news was one of the top wrestlers would not be competing.

Norwin sophomore Landon Sidun, who is ranked No. 1 in the country at 121 pounds, will miss the tournament as he recovers from three consecutive weekends of wrestling across the country.

Sidun won titles at the Beast of the East (Dec. 22), Powerade (Dec. 28) and the Fred Buchanan in Clovis, Calif. (Jan. 4).

“He’s a little banged up,” Norwin coach Kyle Martin said after Wednesday’s match against Penn-Trafford. “We may hold him out.”

It’s the second consecutive year Sidun has missed the tournament. Norwin did not participate in 2024.

And while wrestling fans will miss out on watching Sidun compete, the tournament still has state qualifiers and possible PIAA champions competing.

As expected, the 189-pound weight class turned out to be loaded with PIAA-quality wrestlers. Latrobe sophomore Hunter Snyder, a returning champion, was seeded No. 1 over Kiski Area senior Mark Gray, Penn-Trafford senior Tasso Whipple and Derry sophomore Brady Brown.

The 215-pound weight class is another strong bracket with returning champion Cooper Roscosky, a Kiski Area junior, getting seeded over Belle Vernon junior Elijah Brown and Burrell senior Luke Boylan.

Action gets underway at 4 p.m. Friday at Greensburg Salem and resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday. This is the first year for the girls tournament.

Latrobe senior Luke Willochell is looking to win his fourth title. He was seeded No. 1 at 133.

Burrell junior Cam Baker looks to become a three-time champion. He is ranked No. 1 at 127.

Other past champions are: Latrobe senior Leo Joseph (2022), Mt. Pleasant sophomore Stephen Predajna (2024), Derry sophomore Mason Horwat (2024), Derry senior Anthony Mucci (2024) and Whipple (2023).
