How they got here: Chartiers Valley defeated No. 13 Thomas Jefferson, 72-50, in the first round; No. 5 Moon, 51-44, in the quarterfinals; and No. 1 Montour, 47-44, in the semifinals.

Notable: Chartiers Valley defeated Peters Township, 71-57, in a nonsection game Feb. 1. … CV has one of the highest-scoring offenses (70.2 ppg) in WPIAL Class 5A led by Davis, who has more than 2,000 career points. He averaged 23.6 ppg in the regular season. … The defense holds opponents to 52 ppg. … This is Dotchin’s first season as coach after going 55-22 in three seasons as Highlands’ coach. He won a WPIAL title in 2020 as a Rams assistant. … Chartiers Valley reached the finals by defeating two section foes, Moon and Montour. … The Colts are making their 13th appearance in the WPIAL finals. They were the Class 5A runners-up in 2021, their most recent final. … CV’s three losses this season were to Montour (twice) and City League champion Allderdice.

How they got here: Peters Township defeated No. 11 Penn Hills, 63-30, in the first round; No. 3 Uniontown, 56-52, in the quarterfinals; and No. 10 Mars in overtime, 58-51, in the semifinals.

Notable: This is Peters Township’s third appearance in the WPIAL finals and the second in three years. The Indians were Class 5A runners-up to Penn Hills in 2023. … Urmann is in his fifth season as coach. His team went 14-23 combined in his first two seasons and compiled a 59-18 mark since. … The Indians on average score 61.1 ppg led by Donovan (18.7 ppg) and McCullough (9.4). … McCullough was an all-conference football player in the fall for the WPIAL Class 5A runners-up. … Another football standout, Stanford recruit Mickey Vaccarello enrolled in college early, leaving the basketball team after 14 games. … Wetzel leads the team in rebounding with 6.3 per game. He is the younger brother of Peters Township girls basketball senior Natalie Wetzel, a Miami (Fla.) commit. Her team plays South Fayette in the WPIAL 5A girls final Friday.
