High school roundup for March 17, 2025: South Park pitcher opens season with 13 Ks

Winning pitcher Cooper Hochendoner threw a complete game, allowing one run on three hits with 13 strikeouts, to lead South Park to a 6-1 victory over Ringgold in nonsection baseball Monday.
Hochendoner also singled and drove in two runs, Robert Lenzi doubled and knocked in a run as Keegan Fekety and Ryan Spitznagel each had an RBI for the Eagles (1-0). Tyler Fisher doubled and drove in the only run for the Rams (0-2).
Avella 10, Brentwood 0 – Winning pitcher Charles Rush tossed four innings of one-hit shutout ball while striking out seven, Bryce Wright went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Noah Kinberland hit a two-run double as Avella (2-0) blanked Brentwood (0-1) in nonsection play. Blaize Diaz and Michael O’Leary doubled for the Spartans.
Brighton (Colo.) 11, West Mifflin 7 – Jayvon Thompson went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs and Hunter Horne tripled and knocked in two runs for West Mifflin (2-2) in a loss in Vero Beach, Fla. Winning pitcher Austin Sickler tripled, homered and had three RBIs for Brighton.
Butler 4, Knoch 1 – Jett Cuffman doubled twice and plated a pair of runs and Trent Best doubled and also drove in two runs as Butler (1-0) beat Knoch (0-1) in nonsection play. Kaden Dreher doubled and drove in a run and Dylan Roth hit a pair of doubles for the Knights. Nolan Stefaniak struck out 11 in five innings to earn the win.
Carlynton 13, Northgate 3 – Winning pitcher Eric Firle fanned nine while allowing one unearned run on two hits in four innings as Carlynton (1-0) rolled over Northgate (0-1) in nonsection play. Tyler Heinrich went 3 for 3 and had five RBIs, Isaac Anker also had three hits and drove in two while Connor Hart doubled twice and produced a run for the Cougars. Chris Crawford singled and drove in two runs for the Flames.
Central Catholic 7, Highlands 4 – Carson Pettyjohn and CJ Proch each drove in a pair of runs and Chrsitian Cordeiro doubled and knocked in another run as Central Catholic (1-0) defeated Highlands (0-1) in nonsection play. Carson McGraw singled and drove in a run and Jake King had two hits for the Golden Rams. Sam Luedde got the win for the Vikings.
Ellwood City 11, Freedom 4 – Winning pitcher Aaron Lake and Cameron Mills each doubled and drove in two runs while Jordan Keller doubled and knocked in another run to boost Ellwood City (1-0) to a nonsection win. Boden Hilliard doubled and drove in a run for Freedom (0-1).
Franklin Regional 10, D’Evelyn (Colo.) 7 – Winning pitcher Anthony Mitchell went 4 for 4 with three doubles and knocked in two runs, Brady Yarabinetz also drove in two and NJ Ramchandran plated a run and scored twice as Franklin Regional (3-0) won in Vero Beach, Fla. Ryan Kim went 3 for 4 with an RBI for D’Evelyn.
Frazier 20, Washington 7 – Winning pitcher Aiden Hardy singled, doubled, tripled and drove in three runs, Chase Fulmer singled, homered and knocked in three runs and Frazier (1-0) scored 13 times in the fifth inning of a nonsection win. Isaac Charnik had a double and four RBIs for Washington (0-1).
Governor Mifflin 4, Moon 2 – Branson Adams singled and drove in two runs and Ethan Grim picked up the victory as Governor Mifflin (1-1) won in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Drew Zieger went 2 for 3 with an RBI, Connor Kunkle knocked in another run and Taylor Ebner and Thad Longwell each doubled for the Tigers (1-2).
Moon 12, Governor Mifflin 3 – Savario Venditti tripled and drove in three runs, Nico Marasco knocked in two and doubled and Nick Matrusko doubled and drove in a run as Moon (1-2) cruised in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Tyler Ebner got the win for the Tigers.
Mt. Pleasant 10, D’Evelyn (Colo.) 5 – Cole Chatfield tripled and knocked in three runs and Levi Hixson drove in a run on two hits as Mt. Pleasant (1-2) scored nine runs in the top of the ninth to come away with a win in Vero Beach, Fla. Thomas Sweetman went 3 for 4 for D’Evelyn. Jacob Kitz picked up the win for the Vikings.
Peters Township 6, Canon-McMillan 4 – Jackson Stocker doubled and drove in a pair of runs, Reese Clarke doubled and Zach Miner earned the win as Peters Township (2-0) defeated Canon-McMillan (0-1) in nonsection play. Ben Peterson tripled and drove in a run and Teddy Burke doubled for the Big Macs.
Quaker Valley 12, Ambridge 12 – Todd Kagle hit a solo home run and a grand slam for Quaker Valley (0-0-1) in a nonsection game called in the eighth inning due to darkness. Joe Leseiko singled, tripled, homered and drove in three runs and Carter Mason went 3 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI for Ambridge (0-0-1).
Riverside 10, Shenango 1 – Winning pitcher Zack Hare tossed six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out 14 while also hitting a double and driving in three runs to lead Riverside (1-0) to a nonsection win. Drake Fox knocked in two runs and Hunter Garvin went 3 for 3 with an RBI for the Panthers. Christian Anterock singled and drove in the only run for Shenango (1-1).
Seneca Valley 16, Sto-Rox 0 – Micah Olayer was a single short of the cycle and drove in five runs, Danny Drennan hit a two-run homer and winning pitcher Ryan Rebholz struck out seven and allowed no hits while doubling and driving in three as Seneca Valley (1-0) blanked Sto-Rox (0-1) in three innings in nonsection play. Connor Carmey and Mason Fisher each had an RBI for the Raiders.
St. Petersburg 11, South Fayette 6 – Brody Nelson went 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs and Owen Landers got the win as St. Petersburg beat South Fayette (1-1) in St. Petersburg, Fla. Anthony Diodata went 4 for 4 with a triple and a pair of RBIs and Trey Skeen doubled for the Lions.
Softball
Beaver 9, South Fayette 6 – Cali Coups, Sami Springman and Olivia Peabody hit a double and drove in two runs apiece to push Beaver (2-0) to a nonsection win. Julia Munkittrick and Evie Vuono hit a triple each for South Fayette (0-1).
Blackhawk 2, Hopewell 1 – Brynn Hysong hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth for Blackhawk (1-0) in a nonsection win over Hopewell (0-1). Lila Grimm also hit a triple for the Cougars.
Canon-McMillan 15, Peters Township 3 – Skylah Steban went 3 for 4 with a double, home run and four RBIs, Hailey Swope went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs and Kadence Merigo homered to lead Canon McMillan (1-1) to a nonsection win. Mackenzie Morgna went 2 for 2 with a double and triple for Peters Township (1-1).
Central Valley 16, Keystone Oaks 7 – London Banks went 4 for 5 with a double and four RBIs, Sonya Householder doubled and Mckenzie Rizor drove in four runs to lead Central Valley (1-0) to a nonsection win. Amelia Walter, Kylie Stahl, Kennadi Smith and Paisley Steban-Streshenko hit a triple each for Keystone Oaks (0-1).
Fox Chapel 10, Butler 0 – Jillian Haigh struck out nine and went 3 for 4 at the plate, driving in two runs, and Lily Viti hit a two-run double to lead Fox Chapel (2-0) to a nonsection win. Marissa Sklencar went 2 for 2 for Butler (0-1).
Franklin Regional 12, Cushing Academy (Mass.) 0 – Winning pitcher Maddie Hill struck out five and allowed two hits in five innings and Toryn Fulton went 3 for 4 with a double, triple, home run and two RBIs to lead Franklin Regional (1-1) in Vero beach, Fla.
McGuffey 13, Beth-Center 3 – Winning pitcher McKenna Crothers struck out nine and Miley Main and Nicole Klages went 3 for 4 with a double each to lead McGuffey (1-0) to a nonsection win. Allison Lynch hit a triple for Beth-Center (0-1).
North Catholic 13, Seton LaSalle 7 – Clare Kotwica hit a triple and home run, Julianna Lehman homered and Ella Eiler went 3 for 4 to lead North Catholic (1-0) to a nonsection win. Layla Chapman hit a home run and Gianna Ferrieri and Delaney Baker hit a double apiece for Seton LaSalle (0-1).
Plum 13, Chartiers Valley 0 – Riley Stephans went 2 for 2 with two home runs and Lily DeLuca hit two home runs and drove in five runs to lead Plum (1-0) to a nonsection win. Delaney O’Connor doubled for Chartiers Valley (0-2). Brooke Bernosky, Danielle Pici and Sydney Pici also hit home runs for the Mustangs.
Sebastian River (Fla.) 8, Franklin Regional 7 – Rily Biggers hit a two-run homer, Kiera Carow hit two doubles and Ashlyn Guthermuth tripled for Sebastian River (Fla.) in Vero Beach, Fla. Averi Lamfrom hit three singles, C.C. Copeland doubled and Adrianna Martz drove in two runs for Franklin Regional (1-1).
South Side 17, Western Beaver 6 – Madison Morrow went 4 for 5 and Halina Matijevich and Maya Ringhoff hit a home run each to lead South Side (2-0) to a nonsection win. Izzie Lefebrve went 4 for 4 with a double, two home runs and six RBIs for Western Beaver (0-1).
Union 13, Riverside 1 – Winning pitcher Mia Preuhs struck out 14 and allowed three hits in five innings and went 3 for 4 with a double, two home runs and six RBIs to lead Union (1-0) to a nonsection win. Addie Nogay also went 3 for 4 with a double, two home runs and two RBIs for the Scotties. Jocilene Cummings drove in the lone run for Riverside (0-1).
Yough 19, Green Farms Academy (Conn.) 0 – Winning pitcher Jaidyn Vai struck out seven and went 2 for 3 with a double and six RBIs to lead Yough (2-0) at the KSA Disney Classic in Orlando, Fla. Payton Jenkins and Brooke Kowalski also hit doubles for the Cougars.
Boys volleyball
Canon-McMillan 3, Seton LaSalle 1 – Henry Klinar and Landon Patterson had 12 kills apiece, Justin Peters recorded eight kills and 27 assists and Jack Steele added eight kills and three blocks to lead Canon-McMillan to a nonsection win. Aydin Winkelblech dished out 13 assists and Nolan Rosing had nine digs.
Girls lacrosse
Pine-Richland 16, Penn-Trafford 4 – Cate Gentille had four goals and five assists and Madeline Mill and Claire Mill also scored four goals each to lead Pine-Richland to a nonsection win. Kendyll Jerry added three goals for the Rams.
